New Creations Salon — Attraction in Kansas City

I've been seeing my stylist, Cree, for almost 4 years now. The level of trust I have in her is honestly incomparable; I am not one to so easily hand out trust to anyone, ever. She is so outstanding at her craft that I get personally offended at the thought of someone else touching my hair. Wherever she goes, I will follow.

That said, this was my first visit to this salon ever since Cree left her previous location to join New Creations. It had been 7 months since my last appointment with her because I have started to grow my hair out, so I was mildly anxious going into a new establishment.

Vibe check? PASSED. The moment I walked in I was greeted with a warm welcome from everyone there, which instantaneously put me at ease. James & Sara were incredibly friendly, with inviting personalities that soothed my anxious soul into a state of comfort. It honestly felt like I had been going there for years and knew all the staff personally.

All things considered, this is, hands down, the absolute best salon that I have ever stepped foot in. Personally, this is the pinnacle of what a salon experience should be like. The atmosphere is unmatched; the artwork decorating the interior is easy on the eyes. The establishment itself is well-kept and organized. The cherry on top is that all three of the stylists there are knowledgeable artisans of their craft and very friendly, personable, & engaging.

Rest assured, you could book with any of the three stylists (Cree, Sara, & James) and walk out of there with confidence and possibly even a new forever...

A couple days ago I went to New Creations to get my curly hair trimmed and booked with Steven Dawdy. I have nothing but positive feedback! We struggled to find a date and time that would fit both our schedules, but Steven was incredibly understanding and flexible. I’m always nervous when it comes to cutting my hair since I’ve had bad experiences in the past, but at new creations I felt welcomed and understood on what look I was going for. I was greeted with smiles and felt as if I was with a friend the whole appointment. Steven was great at hearing what I wanted and giving me feedback on questions I had. Through out the appointment I had fun talking with Steven and getting such energetic kind responses, I really felt that he matched my energy and had a smile on my face the whole time. I expected my appointment to take about an hour (I was getting layers done but you never know with curly hair) but I was done in about 45! My hair looks so much more healthy and feels lighter after getting it cut. I personally hate doing a very long hair routine every morning, but with Stevens help I now have curly layers that shape my face but still keeps the length and is easy to pull back. Has a great atmosphere, stylist are knowledgeable in cuts for all textures but, could further their general knowledge in styling all curly hair textures. With that being said they did have passion for learning. I’m African American with thick short coarse coily hair, and I absolutely love how my deva cut turned out! I think if they offered or knew how to do styles like twist outs/ braid outs for this type of hair after washing it would be a great place for tighter shorter textures to fully enjoy ( I think if your hair is coarse but longer you will be fine with the styling part). However, I never do wash & goes on my hair because it shrinks like 90% which, is what happened at the salon after they dried me. To be fair, it isn’t easy to do a wash and go for me. However, if you apply certain products in the correct order and do other techniques it’s possible. When I got home I did my own twist out and my hair looks great. I solely went for a deva cut, the wash and style is included in the price and optional but sometimes necessary for the cut (like mine was) so I suppose I got what I initially wanted in the end.
