A fun romp and a fair ticket price. Thank god for Christopher Peterson, if not for the courage of the fearless Franknfurter, the playhouse would be lost. Christopher delivers 85 % of the performance, pacing, and wit, plus 100% of the best costumes in the show.
Myself, and the audience deserve a thumbs down for the most flaccid audience participation I've ever seen at a Rocky Horror performance. Despite the help of a few strong audience members and a handy 5 dollar grab bag of Rocky Horror essentials (a newspaper, flashlight, noisemaker, party hat and a playing card) the largely octagenarian crowd weren't able to keep up with the Rocky Horror tradition of audience participation. Woe is us. Quite a few of the audience were dressed up.
Without the outstanding Count, the ensemble would be a bit back on their heels, although Nik Mazza fills his golden speedo well and gives his Rocky plenty of flex and tons of fun. Dave Bootle gave us an Eddie who was already in rigor mortis even before his untimely demise. But then again who an top Meatloaf?? Nevertheless, we got spirited performances by all.
I'm surprised the Waterfront playhouse couldn't have spent a bit more time and money finding props or building sets, instead depending on a weak little screen to project.... .project what exactly? I counted three props, a small cardboard car, an armchair, and an ice box. Is it too much to paint a couple of flats?
Rocky Horror is all about the catchy songs and funny lyrics, and this production does not disappoint, with quite a few good vocal performances. Sadly, many were drowned out by the excessive volume of the canned score. Finer fingers on the mixer board would have helped.
Overall good fun. Pop for a at least 2 cocktails at the bar outside before the show and...
Read moreThis theater is a GEM!! Cozy seating - not a bad seat in the house. Performers are very talented and well directed. Musical direction is top notch and the sets are way beyond what a theater of this size should be doing. I have now taken my neighbors a couple of times and they love it so much they have gone back on their own. To top it off it is right on Mallory Square so go see a sunset, have dinner at one of the many restaurants close by and have a wonderful night at...
Read moreI loved this theater, the atmosphere was casual and intimate. There is plenty of seating and there is no seat in the vicinity that is too far away or obstructed. They had a little setup outside to grab some props and drinks. The play was great and actors were lovely..no complaints about the night.
I will say most of the theaters in Key West have been behind in 'not requiring masks' and I think the concern is that most of their customer base is over 70 (just...
