Unfortunately, we expected more out of a $300 dinner for 2. On the plus side, fantastic architecture and overall atmosphere. Something that we were not aware of is that your reservation time is actually your boat departure time. We arreved early and were denied boarding until our reservation time. No big deal. As for the service, it was mixed. The hostess though efficient, had no personality for this type of job. Our bartender was great. Good drinks and conversation. Our busboys were more engaging than our waiter. We were seated in the bar which is the pathway to the outside seating area. This lead to a constant stream of traffic past our table. Each time the outside door was opened, we would get hit by a mass of hot humid air that woud disapate just before the door was opened again.
The food was spotty. Lobster Bisque to start and we shared the Artisan Cheese plate. Alrhough by no means bad, the Bisque was fair. The cheese plate was very well presented and tasted fantastic. Should come with an optional wine flight. My wife had the scallops. Cooked perfictly but really didnt go well with the corn relish which overpowered the scallops. I had the Wagyu Korean Skirt Steak. Again, cooked perfictly but didnt pair well with mashed potatoes it was served on top of. The sauce, which smotheted it, covered up any sence of the meats natural flavors. Really a great steak underneath. Desert was a Mango Creme Brulee. We split it and it...
Read moreHad a wonderful sunset dining experience on 3.18.21 despite being hit by a swarm of TERMITES at dusk, & everyone running away to take refuge indoors. John the Mgr was very accommodating to replace food/drinks w/bugs in them, & credited our ticket accordingly. He was also very helpful in securing the reservation wks beforehand.
Michel our server was also very knowledgeable, & respectful of time, & spacing our food items so we could enjoy the moment as a whole, & not become rushed.
The key lime martini's were top notch. I enjoyed the french onion soup, & medium rare ahi tuna plate for dinner. My husband had the lobster, & wedge salad. Our 10yr old enjoyed the marinara & noodles child's menu option.
The boat ride over at 615pm was a bit packed but nice views, coming back at 930ish pm it was sparse. We sat inside where it was spaced & air conditioned hoping to avoid crowds. The only issue was a very deranged man yelling about face masks (which all were wearing), & that his wife was an epidemiologist. This wasn't the boat's fault, he was apparently not well, or maybe drunk, & needed someone to help him mind his own business.
We look forward to returning to this restaurant, & staying in a cottage on Sunset Key. We were amazed how quaint, beautiful, & peaceful the island is, & definitely off radar.
The termite incident was apparently very uncommon, & not normal so hopefully when you consider sunset dining this won't...
Read moreThe food was excellent so we'll start with that. Unfortunately the service was absolutely horrible other than the young guy that was refilling water and removing plates. He was amazing. The waiter Mike came to the table a total of maybe six times with us having to call him over. And was not friendly at all. After we alerted the management of the lack service we went outside and waited for the ferry. After that they seem to have had a meeting with management. After that a waiter that wasn't even our server came out and told the outside bartender to watch out for us. After hearing this the outside bartender didn't even come over and ask us for an order. Also after that the waiter gave us a dirty look every time he came out. I would not recommend this place to anyone unless some major staff...
