I love old theaters! We went to see the ballet and while the show itself wasn't so great the theater wasn't a disappointment. It's a neat old theater and I can tell there's been plenty of renovations over the years to maintain its charm. It's pretty amazing actually that a small town like Klamath Falls has kept this little theater alive, considering there's probably not a draw for bigger acts to hit this out of the way market. I can only imagine that a devoted group of people has probably been raising funds over the years to maintain the building but I don't really know the history. I wish there were more reasons to keep going. I looked at the schedule and the line up for the coming year and didn't see much on there that would get me back to the venue especially after the ballet we just saw which was a disappointment. Still..I may try and find some reason to go to another concert or production there because old theaters like this need our support. There's no Ross Ragland merch though, I think a T-shirt or a hoodie would be a cool idea..I don't know. I adore the city of Klamath Falls and the Ross Ragland definitely adds to the small town that's still thriving ambience. I will try to make it back in the...
Read moreI tried to send them this email, but their email doesn't work. I went to the matinee on Sunday July 11 of Pirates of Penzance. My first shock was, what? no set? My second shock was, what? no costumes?
My favorite things about theater are sets and costumes. Without those the audience has no context for a period show. Anyone not familiar with Gilbert & Sullivan musicals would be hard pressed to understand the show.
The performances were fine, and I particularly liked the Modern Major General, she was awesome and had a great costume. It is for her that I gave the second star.
But what was that thing that Ruth was wearing? It was awful. She was good in the role but her clothes were inappropriate and strange.
I felt like I was watching a rehearsal.
This was my first time at Ross Ragland. Is this customary for your shows?
If it's a budget problem, I say if you can't afford sets and costumes for a period show, stick to modern settings where you can get stuff from a thrift store and actors can just wear their own clothes.
Sorry to say it, but I was...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised by the Ragland’s performance of Anastasia. This was my first time attending an event at the Ross Ragland Theater, and I’ll admit I didn’t have high expectations for a small theater in a small town. But by the end of the show, I was throughly impressed.
There were a few hiccups, some volume mixing issues and occasionally stiffness from performers, but those are easy to overlook considering how well everything else came together. The production quality, energy, and overall experience far exceeded what I expected.
