Davis County Library is requiring appointments, taking names, recording the age of each of my children and tracking how long we stay at the library. Why is our local library building a profile on us? Every book we check out is now tied to a thorough description of us. It is difficult to imagine a harmless reason for such an invasion of privacy, especially with the current social and political backdrop.
COVID is no excuse for profiling. Although I can see and appreciate that library staff is cleaning materials as it moves through the system, and they do a good job, why all the invasive controls? The library is never crowded; patrons keep distance quite naturally. Typically the librarians outnumber the patrons. Surveillance cameras are in place to monitor activities of patrons inside the library already.
This invasive profiling of community members has become an intimidating deterrent for my family. If it persists, we will take our concerns to the City and County. We are responsible to educate our own children while public education flounders. It doesn't help to treat residents like criminal suspects for simply attending...
Read moreGood library. Good selection of books - I’ll get more that in a second. Good staff. Lots of programming across all age levels. Free internet access. Easy to get a library card. Really important - this is a no late fee library. Just bring the book back and they are usually just pleased as punch to call it even. I applaud this kind of forward thinking.
A note on selection - this library is linked with all others in Davis county - so you really have access to much more than is physically here. Make use of that and the helpful website to make requests.
Another note on selection - do indeed find out about the Libby app. With it you can access many many books and audio books, and once again you have access to so much more because Davis county libraries are part of the Beehive Consortium, a nearly statewide network. Try Libby - it’s free with your library card and it’s fantastic!
One last note - Weber and Davis county have a reciprocity agreement. You can get...
Read moreI would give it 5 stars for the books. However the customer service is less than 1 star…never been to a library where the employees are so boisterously loud you can hear them from every point in the library and the extra rooms, where kids are allowed to be louder then that as they run and scream and throw books on people’s feet (not angry at the kids just showing as an example)
And yet when a mere 2 year old has a tablet volume up barely loud enough to hear he is targeted as being too loud , while even the older sibling using their own with the volume louder is ignored.
This review is 1, for bad customer service as I’ve seen them get rude about someone getting keys for room rental as little as 2 minutes early 🙄 or just not letting said people use the room reserved for them… And 2, for targeting easy prey in young children when they DONT OBEY THEIR OWN...
