The Movie Exchange experience is a mixed bag to say the least. On the one hand, their selection is far more than acceptable and their prices are reasonable. You can expect to buy a DVD there for around $7.99, and their group deals (5 for $3.99, that sort of thing) are pretty decent. I've never been sold a damaged DVD, a game that didn't work, or an incorrectly labeled or packaged product, which is better than I can say for many DVD-resale stores in this post-Blockbuster era of movie stores. My only gripe regarding their pricing is that the Widescreen release of any film seems to be around $2 more expensive than the standard edition. Other than that, Movie Exchange seems to have been plucked right out of 1985 as far as service and quality goes.
And that's where the problems start. Like any 1980's Blockbuster Video, the employees range from friendly but only moderately helpful to outright rude and dismissive. There's only a single employee there who I feel goes above and beyond in their work. The service is inconsistent and often arbitrary. I one time brought around five Xbox-360 games to sell, and was told that they could only buy one of them, because the others were 'too damaged'. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten my ID (which you need to resell games or even so much as redeem a rewards card, another gripe of mine) so I left empty handed. The next day, I returned with the same games (and my ID) and a different employee offered to buy four of them, not just the one.
I later went up to the store with an entire suite of Wii stuff, from the working console to games to accessories. Despite the fact that I've seen their cabinet full of old consoles and accessories that nobody seemed to want, I was informed that they were only interested in the games. After a very rushed appraisal, I was told that they wanted none of my games (even though I was sure they were in good condition and would work as well as any game in a Wii console) and that the only one that was in good condition, the employee didn't think the store could sell. Again, this is despite the shelves upon shelves of merchandise they stock that seems trashy and unsellable. On top of that, the employee seemed disinterested and annoyed.
So... I basically only go there because it's within walking-distance. The service isn't great and the only thing that makes the place competitive is the prices and selection. Stop by, give it a browse, but don't feel like you have to fill out that rewards card.
And DO NOT sell your items here. Ebay is always the...
Read moreBeen here a few times as they have some good stuff and mostly good/decent prices. Aside from the high marked up used prices they have through out the store my review focuses on my recent sell/trade experience. Poor customer service. And poor sell/trade offers. I brought in two bags with cds, vinyl, movies and games arranged neatly stacked side by side. Upon returning to the store the next day I received one bag with a huge tear and my items jumbled together in both bags. All I got was a “unfortunately one of the bags has a big tear, so…” On top of that the amount for the items the store wanted was laughable. Very small amount and apparently chosen by the system they use. I was unhappy with that as I know an actual decent person who looked at my items would’ve offered a decent amount. I wasn’t looking for a selling price or anything but .50 or .25 cents for an item that is worth over $20 is ridiculous. I took back some of my items. Bad experience for me. I do like the store but customer service needs to improve and the system that determines offers needs...
Read moreI love this place, they have an amazing selection of records, DVDs, pop figures, posters, and so much more.. but my son (he's 15) went in to try to sell some vinyls, before they even touched the vinyls, they asked for an ID so I gave them mine because they refused to look at the records until they had my id. I was hesitant about it because why do they need my ID to LOOK at the vinyls he was trying to sell. They typed whatever into the computer, handed my id back and said they wouldn't buy the records (they weren't in the best shape but this is something my son wanted to do) I do not understand why my ID needed to be taken, entered into whatever system, just so they could LOOK at the records. I understand if they offered to buy these but they didn't even look at them until they had all my info. This made me uncomfortable. Maybe explain why .. or look at the vinyls first and if they are going to buy them THEN that Information...
