We found this hotel via our travel agent, and it was a mixed bag of experiences. The history of the hotel is fantastic with it's nod to Hollywood decor but once you get passed the amazing autographed photos and elegant lobby you enter into a basic, cramped hotel room. I will say that the laminate floors were a very nice surprise as was the large double shower in room 119! Unfortunately the very cramped space meant that the bathroom door opened mere inches from the toilet right against the shower. The headboards were orange buttoned upholstry that didn't appear to have been updated for decades! The beds themselves were comfortable though, and the shutters on the windows were great too (I wanted to have them at my house LOL)! Having to open a window (in the shower) onto the pool space to keep humidity out of the bathroom (with or without the shower on) not so great. It lacks privacy and makes for a lot of noise. We opted not to use the microwave, as there was an actual black burn mark inside on the top of the unit which made us feel unsure of it's safety. Speaking of safety, if you are not familiar with Hollywood and are traveling as a family, walking this area at dusk or at night isn't exactly comfortable. The area is populated with homeless people (heartbreaking) and those trying to approach you to make a sale. It's an interesting and unique experience but unnerving all the same if you have children with you. Day visits to Hollywood Blvd are better with children. The man at the front desk with the ginger hair and close kept beard was fantastic! I think he is the manager and I wish I could remember his name to thank him personally. He was always cheerful and helpful with everything! The housekeeping staff was a bit standoffish for some reason, but the valets were always very helpful. I can't complain about the service at all as it was very good. We didn't get a chance to try the cafe downstairs, but I wish we had. According to the staff, Ryan Gosling comes there for coffee so it must be a pretty great place! All in all it's a good hotel if you need to be in the area and are simply looking for a place to sleep. Although your sleep may be interrupted if you face the alley like we did as there was arguing and banging at all hours! A fabulous piece of Hollywood history, but definitely has room for improvement considering the price point!
