The Artist Lab + Education — Attraction in Los Angeles

Extremely disappointed with my experience at Artists Lab and I even gave this place more than one opportunity to redeem itself. The vibe feels more like you pay a fee for “rental space” as there’s no clear structure between staff and the entire place is crowded chaos. The quality of staff is night and day, no middle ground. They’re either extremely knowledgeable or really shouldn’t be teaching/running a business. You’re given misinformation on fees and told something is free when it isn’t. Was hopeful this would be a space for creative adults to get together but it’s definitely more child oriented. My advice if given an option- stay and home and create on your own instead. I highly recommend the artist lab because the staff members are great and very reliable. The place is very clean and well equipped. Faculties are well prepared and very instructive and kind to our kids. the moment my son stepped on one of the ceramics (3D) class, he felt the warmth and care from teacher. I am going to write in Korean for more detail about the program. 아이들에게 많은 것을 보여주고 싶고, 노출시켜주고 싶어하는 부모님들이 많으실 거라 생각합니다. 저희 아이도 영어도 영어지만, 그래도 아이가 좋아하는 것을 하면서, 미국생활 정착에 가속화코자 학원들을 알아 보았는데, 다들 만만치 않더라고요. 어떤 애프터스쿨은 공부(숙제) 위주로 한다던지, 어떤 곳들은 아이들을 밖에다가 풀어놓고, 아이들끼리 놀게끔 만들다던지, 뭔가 체계적이고, 즐거운 곳에서 애들을 놀리고 싶은데...한달을 찾고찾다 보니, 이 곳을 알게 되었습니다. 조금이나마 도움이 되고자 하는 마음에 후기 남깁니다.

1.픽업서비스 : 제 아이는 한콕파크에 다니고 있고, 픽업서비스로 학원을 다니고 있습니다. 흔희, 다른 학원차량을 보면 조금 낡았거나, 봉고 비스므리한 차량으로 애들을 픽업하는데, 아티스틱 랩의 차량은 매우 깨끗한 최신식 차량이었고, 안전감이 더 있다고 말할 수 있습니다. 저는 매우 만족했습니다.

수업 : 커리큘럼은 요일마다 다르며, 저희 아이는 손으로 만드는 것을 좋아라 해서, ceramics를 했습니다. 우리 아이가 그 수업에 맞는 지는, 무료 테스팅 수업으로 확인하실 수 있습니다. 점토로 만든 미술작품은 불로 구울 수 있는데, 여기 부원장님께서 프로모션으로 하나 굽는데 할인 받아서 5불에 할 수 있도록 제안해줍니다.

선생님 : 일단 기본적으로 선생님들이 밝습니다. 유명한 학교에서 학위를 받은 선생님들입니다. 복도에 그분들의 이력이 담겨져 있는 액자들을 봤는데 UCLA 등의 명문대학에서 졸업한 선생님들이었습니다. 애들에게 좋은 impression과 atmosphere 제공하는 데 큰 역할을 합니다. 저희 아이가 처음에는 좀 샤이하나, 한번 적응하면, 정말 미친 친화력으로 정말 편안하게 생활하는 아이인데, 첫 테스팅 수업에서, 바로 편안하게 수업을 받고 실습을 하는 것 보고 맘에 놓였습니다.

교실 : 애들이 많기는 하였으나, 쾌적함은 유지할 수 있게끔 테이블 셋팅이라던 지, 교실이 큼직큼직했습니다. 전혀 불편함을 못 느끼실 거에요.

접근성 : 윌셔 도로대로변에 있다보니, 라브레아 (제가 사는 곳)에서 그리 멀지 않습니다. 한 10~15분이면 갈 수 있는 곳이라서, 학원이 끝나고 픽업가시는데 부담 없었습니다. 그리고 주차장은 바로 옆에 있고, 자리가 부족하면, 길거리에다가 주차하실 수 있는 공간들이 많아서, 이동하는 것에 전혀 불편함이 없었습니다.

미국생활을 곧 마무리 하는 입장에서, 다른 부모님들에게 도움이 되었으면 하는...

We've had a wonderful experience with the summer camp for our four year old who has developed an interest in creating. The group is small and approachable and has a nurturing environment. Ms Shelby & Mr Rodrigo have been great drawing/painting teachers, and Sophia & Jesse have created a wonderful space for artists. We love seeing his creations every day. I can't recommend it enough.
