Los Angeles Times Recommends: 9 Must-Try Korean Cafes in LA!

For a cafe like TOM N TOMS BLACK in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, to have unlimited time, covered FREE PARKING is unheard of in this part of town. They provide more than just the trendy and tasty caffeinated (with non-caffeinated ones as well) drinks you’ve been seeing on social media. I was beyond delighted to enjoy their flavorful Popcorn Chicken (Korean Style), which also had rice cakes and crushed peanuts, as well as their Pepperoni Pretzel. I could spend all day (and night- they close at midnight 6 days/week) here, and they definitely welcome & encourage people to stick around to work/study🤓 I had: 🍓Strawberry Mojito Lemonade, 🍦Vanilla Cream Cold Brew, 🫐Acai Smoothie, 🍵Mint Mojito Latte, 🌹Rose Latte, 🍗Popcorn Chicken- Korean Style, 🥪Classic Sandwich, 🍫Red Bean & Nutella Taiyaki’s, 🥨Pizza Pretzel, 🥯Salmon Bagel

This is the type of place I would go to if I just needed somewhere to work or catch up with a friend, but their menu and their food options don’t necessarily stand out from other cafés. I don’t see a particular specialization in anything, their options are just fine and they have something for everyone. Ordered the Eispanner but it definitely isn’t something you’ll get from Memory Look; it’s an iced Americano with heavy whipping cream on top with a little bit of cocoa or cinnamon sprinkled on top; it’s not sweet but they have syrup for you. After mixing it it kind of just taste like a latte. Came here on a weekday afternoon and it’s super quiet. Their wifi is great and the outside patio is a little loud because of traffic so don’t recommend that for video conferences or anything.

$9 bread not worth the space.

Walked in to get some work done knowing I was going to get hungry, order, and eat… probably leave once my food was done. To the two people behind the register I say, “I’m gonna get some work done” they respond “Ok.”

I sit down for an hour and a half, minding my business doing work, then as I’m about up and order my computer is taking a while to save and this lady walks up to me and asks, “Did you figure out what you wanted to order?” I remove my headphones and ask what did you say. She repeats if I “figured out if you (I) want to order and that you (I) have order and the counter. You (I) cant order sitting down.” I respond, “Are you trying to tell me I can’t sit here and work unless I order something?” Yes.

“Hmmm. Well I’m waiting for my computer to finish saving the work I was doing then I was gonna order the caramel cinnamon hot bread.” is my response. She saw my computer spinning trying to save, as I pointed at it, and said okay.

That’s what I did. Packed up my stuff, ordered my food (waited 10 additional minutes) then left after I was told “you have to order at the counter”

Other people who I visibly saw sit down and order nothing were not approached. I was not offered any Wi-Fi password to help with my work, not offered water as I sat there and minded my business… I was told to order something or you can’t be here.

Doesn’t seem like a big deal but the bread that I ordered was nasty. So after minding my business working in my MacBook, and being told I have to order something, the food is trash. I’m not coming back.

Your people up front could have said if you wanna sit and work you have to order something. But no, I get spoken to like I...

When you walk in you can immediately order on a tablet. I tried to pay but the card reader wasn’t working. So i walked to the register to speak to a early 20s korean woman. I politely tell her “hey i tried to order over there but the card re-“ and was immediately cut off and interrupted with a “what do you want to order”. I was taken aback for a second at the rude behavior. I was simply trying to inform them it didn’t work. So i try to let it go and proceed “okay then. Can i have a spanish latte with—“ “Okay that’ll be $7”. She cut me off again! Ma’am i wasn’t done! So i looked at her confused and she wasn’t even playing attention just in her own world looking around. So i politely kept going with “can i have oat milk in that. And can i get the chipotle sandwich please. And thats it.” She got the card reader ready and I paid. The receipt printed and i had my hand out waiting for her to give it to me but she just walked away??? Without a word. So i stood there for 2 seconds and told her “thank you”. Would you believe it???? NO THANK YOU FROM HER. NO “your order will be out shortly”. No “you can sit anywhere”. ANYTHING! Horrible customer service. Sandwich was good and latte could be...

Me and my friend went here many times before, never experienced such rude behavior before. There were two cashiers, one of them was fine. She took care of my order, and did everything good. When my friend came and the other cashier with black shirt took her order. My friend ordered matcha latte but in second she wants to change her order, suddenly the black shirted cashier became angry, she told my friend she need to refund the order and resubmit it again. Me and my friend little bit surprised so we decided to take matcha latte. We don’t want to make any trouble to her. After breakfast and coffee we wanted shaved ice, so I went to cashier again. This time black shirted cashier came to take my order, and suddenly she became mad or angry, and kinda didn’t want to take my order. She rolled the eyes to other cashier. Will never go back again to this place. There are many other good coffee shops...
