Somewhat insane, unhinged behavior from the staff here.
I came in and ordered an espresso on ice and typically drink my espresso black but the shot was over-extracted so I politely asked for an inch of milk. A literal inch. Not enough to make a latte or anything.
The woman working behind the counter threw an absolute tantrum, initially refusing to give me milk and then slamming open the fridge doors and aggressively slamming milk on the counter. It was bizarre.
I expressed that there is no need for the attitude and she sarcastically explains that an espresso consists of only coffee, which I’m well aware of. I state that I’m happy to pay if there’s an additional charge. Then, she refuses to make eye contact or speak to me directly for the rest of the interaction.
The other employee seated at the counter explains to me that their system doesn’t allow for an additional charge for milk after the sale has already been made, hence the frustration.
I calmly let him know that’s fine, but I’m not responsible for their system causing these issues, people request adjustments and a la carte items all the time at coffee shops. He questions why I didn’t ask for milk up front.
I leave the espresso and the milk at the counter and ask for a chargeback, which they would not process so then I just left.
Really mediocre espresso and really unstable behavior from the older, female barista working the counter.
I’m guessing the coffee tastes fine if you’re used to lots of milk and sugar. Thankfully, Document Coffee was right around the corner and saved my day without any theatrics over an...
Read moreOne thing I really look for in cafés is the ambience and the quality of the coffees. I generally do NOT prefer cafés where the music is obnoxiously loud to the point you have to shout over to the person you're talking to. This café is perfect to either study in peace or have a conversation with one or a few people. The music is able to be heard, but at the same time, you're able to focus on your studies or hold a good conversation.
I called in beforehand to ask where their parking lot is and the customer service was great. The kind lady who works there explained thoroughly where the lot was and also greeted warmly when I came into the café. I felt very welcomed by the whole vibe of the workers there :)
But what I feel like could improve is their coffee quality. I tried their quad (espresso) shot hot cappuccino with oat milk. In comparison to my favorite coffee shop in LA, the milk didn't seem to be frothy enough and tasted a bit watery. I always expect to have the strong aroma and taste of the espresso beans (especially with quad shots) when I have the first sip of my cappuccino or latte, but it didn't have that "kick."
In overall, it was a great peaceful experience there and I can find myself coming back to this café to...
Read moreOne of the few cafes in Ktown that me and the wife have not experienced. It was a little difficult to find the place since there is heavy construction throughout the block. Also made it equally difficult to find a spot since there is barely any street parking and the only other lot is the Hwa Sun Ji parking where they wont let you park even though its practically empty.
We kind of got scolded from Hwa Sun Ji ownership since we accidentally parked in the lot so this review is mainly so I can rant about Hwa Sun Ji but I'm not so petty to give them a 1-star review for being selfish.
Anyways, at nothing but coffee I had the Charcoal latte, made with activated charcoal which had a delicious, light sweetness to it. Wife had the NBC latte which is like a Spanish latte. Very small, neat coffee shop with very courteous staff even though it seemed understaffed with one guy working the register and also making drinks. Very interesting coffee combinations as well. I'd like to try the London Smog or Honey Truffle next. I think I would name this place the "Doc-u-ment coffee...
