We gave Tsukiyo Sushi a try after seeing it listed under Beli’s Top 5 New LA Restaurants of 2025. I called ahead on Monday to ask if we could walk in. They said it was fine, but we cut it kinda close as only the bar was available by the time we got there around 7:30pm. The inside of the restaurant was smaller than I expected. There’s a bar, of course, in front of the sushi chefs, a small handful of tables, and some more private elevated tatami seating rooms. I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Parking is valet and is $4 for dinner time.
Value was great. I had the sushi set dinner for $30 which came with 12 pieces of nigiri sushi. The sushi was fresh and delicious. We also had the Uni Pasta, which was very good. The sauce was very creamy, and the uni tasted great. The herbs on top added a much appreciated freshness and cut through the rich sauce.
I also ordered the Ume Fizz cocktail, but didn’t get to enjoy it because they forgot about it. I had to remind the staff that I ordered it, and by that point we were more than halfway through our meal. The highball cocktail was good though - fizzy and smooth. The liquor virtually disappears into the drink. It’s a shame I was only able to take a couple sips since our meal was almost over and I had to drive later. Service in general could use improvement. Not only did they forget my drink, it was difficult to get a server’s attention to bring it up.
Regardless of the service, the meal was delicious, reasonably priced, and...

The design includes a tatami style dining, and the food was made with all the right details, and most shockingly, at a super good price compared to other places in LA at this quality.
Some of the top highlights - the eggplant karaage was fried to perfection. The sushi set dinner’s nigiris were all very fresh and delicious. The scallop crudo was also full of flavor. The spicy tuna on crispy rice was actually simply so good.
As for the service, they were attentive (especially Mary) but not too much. They provided complimentary dishes like dessert (when they made a mistake) and edamame after 5pm.
My only criticism was that the Lion King Roll that I ordered - they may have just added too much mayo sauce to it so it overpowered the flavor. Otherwise, every other dish was above average to amazing.
Parking at this restaurant is a little rough because it’s situated in a busy plaza but if you look for street parking, there plenty around but it will just need...

The Atmosphere was very busy at the bar with waiters leaning over to speak with the chefs. The lights would also often flicker under the bar which would be pretty distracting. Where Tsukiyo loses the most points is in service. It started okay however after we ordered our food, every party at the bar who sat and ordered after us got their food while we only got the complimentary edamame. It was only 45 minutes later after we flagged down the wait staff that they noticed we haven’t gotten any food. A total of 70 minutes passed before our food came out and even then we were missing our appetizer. We decided we didn’t want it at that point. There was so apology for the delay and our waitress seemed almost indifferent.
The food was good and we had heard good things before. We hope that this was just a growing pains incident and hopefully if we return in the future we can have a redemptive...
