Museum of Illusions was a really fun time! We got the ticket that was everything but "Smash It". The staff is so friendly & helpful! I called ahead of time for parking info (garage in the back, $20 flat rate I believe) and general questions. They recommended getting there before 8pm and with 2.5 hours (we arrived 7:30pm) we did get everything!
Note: once you're in, you're able to go however many rounds you want!
Shoutout to photographer TIM who really had fun ideas & tips for capturing the illusions (and as a photographer knows other cool places to visit & happenings in the city!) Knew cool phone camera features even I wasn't aware of! MVP of the night, definitely made Museum of Illusions the rad experience we had!
The main attraction (Museum of Illusions) is the best of the three. You get to appreciate the artwork & creativity of these artists (usually signed on the side.) Though they have an indicator for most of these where the camera should be for best presenting the illusion (tripod for rent $10), preview anyways and check different levels so you can see what you really want.
Giant's House comes second(-best.) These props are SO COOL and for a good amount of things you can climb on them etc. It feels like a playground and the space is so colorful! I also believe it's easiest to take pictures here since it's concept is the most straight-forward -- the real challenge is being able to climb on top of things if you want to interact with the giant pieces that way (as we are short!)
Upside-down House is interesting. You can definitely get good pictures, but the impressive part is really seeing the "house" itself (assembled & decorated well!) I recommend a larger view on your camera so you can properly have the "floor" in the picture as well for reference/context. Holding the illusion is definitely the challenging goal here, so maybe brainstorm ahead of time. Hand on surface is like a handstand. Jumps go a long way. Consider hair. You might end up more-so with a "zero gravity" look rather than upside-down; that's cool too. But yes, these were really neat to see the results of later, concept kind of like a roller coaster pic or photo booth where you get it...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the World of Illusions museum in Los Angeles, and I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding service provided by one of their employees, Tim. From the moment we entered the upside down house, this employee went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was unforgettable.
Their photography ideas were truly remarkable. They had an incredible eye for capturing the illusions and creating stunning visual compositions. Their suggestions for poses and angles resulted in some truly unique and captivating photographs. Thanks to their expertise, we were able to capture memories that will last a lifetime.
What impressed me the most was their patience and kindess. As first-timers in LA and Hollywood, Tim went beyond their role by providing us with additional recommendations for exploring Los Angeles as first-timers. They shared valuable insights, suggested must-visit landmarks, and even recommended some local hidden gems. Their genuine passion for their city and desire to make our visit memorable were evident throughout our interaction.
Overall, I cannot commend Tim enough for their exceptional service, photography ideas, and their attentiveness to our needs as first-time visitors. Their commitment to ensuring a delightful experience truly made our visit to the World of Illusions museum and our time in Los Angeles unforgettable. I highly recommend seeking out their assistance when you visit the museum; you won't be disappointed.
Thank you to the entire team at World of Illusions, and a special thanks to this exceptional employee, Tim, for their...
Read moreQuite frankly, I loved this one for the creativity and lots of photo ops. Do not pay full price or price of VIP admissions. On its best day, it's worth 1/4 of what I paid. Look at the busy times, go on a cool day when people aren't likely to go. There were some actual professional shots I needed to take of this place and could hardly get them because of all the insta-girls filming against the backdrops (I do like that they not only allow photography, but encourage it, but they need more space). The paintings / artwork are absolutely phenomenal. The staff are not that attentive, no A/C or ventilation, so it's gets VERY hot & crowded in there, and the place is pretty dirty, otherwise I'd rate higher. If they improved just a couple of those types of things, this place would be poppin'.
Advisory post corona / about the neighborhood: If you are a tourist and not a local, be prepared to pay for parking somewhere safe BEFORE YOU GO (I used spothero), and go with somebody. I would NOT go here alone or unarmed, as the homeless outside of hollywood blvd along with all the criminal activities is so, so bad - the cops have basically abandoned the area. We had several people walk up to us attempting to sell a variety of things including drugs, witnessed drug deals/altercations and the homeless problem is 10x what it was a few years ago. They also require a cotton mask (the other ones not "thick enough" according to their staff). I had to go buy a $6 mask from nearby tourist shop and then everyone took them off...
