You can definitely see the changing face of retail and what a store shopping experience is like with e-commerce and large online retailers dominating our buying habits.
I will say that I never used to be a fan and I haven't stepped foot in a shopping mall except to run in for a new charging cable at an Apple store in about 8 years, so I'm not the best person to review Macy's.
The store layout was really confusing and there was only one directory in the entire store that we could find which is why I'm giving this four stars instead of five. Men's Wear was kind of scattered everywhere, you could tell they had just come off a big shopping weekend which I think they were competing with the upcoming Amazon prime day, but it really did look a lot like a rummage sale or a tornado had gone through the store.
That being sad I still think the most important thing when in a shopping setting especially in a large department store, is the people and any person we interacted with, first at the return counter then a manager in men's wear for shoes, and finally, a sales associate who checked us out, each person went went above and beyond to do something kind for us like giving us a coupon that we didn't know was active for the day. Or bringing out extra sizes in the shoes just in case so we didn't have to wait for them to run to the back again.
Macy's has kind of everything you could need that hasn't changed too much, but I would definitely still encourage having the Macy's app on your phone or be prepared to purchase online through their website if they don't know your sizes or things in store that you know you want to buy especially when good sales are going on.
But the people working in the store were absolutely charming to work with on every level and I wish I could give them five stars, but the store itself and the state of it, I feel like I do have to go...
Read moreThe Estee Lauder lady was very rude. I believe her name was Shirley. I went in-store hoping to test a Chanel lipstick. The EL lady was at the Chanel counter with another customer. The Chanel lipstick counter isn’t huge and I was hesitant to approach, but the store wasn’t crowded so I thought it’s no big deal. I didn’t bump anyone or breathe down anyone’s neck. But the EL lady turned and looked at me like I was a ghost. She tried to smooth it over by saying something about me and my companion. She called us “ladies” so I corrected her (I was annoyed by her initial OVER reaction) explaining that I was with my “son.” She then told me that I was “IN THE WAY” but he (my son) has beautiful eyes. Shirley is rude and patronizing. Shirley could not resist biting back after she started the entire incident by being annoyed at my mere presence. All she had to do was say “excuse me / I didn’t see you / let me know if you need help.” She did none of that.
There is no reason to shop in store if the sales people can’t be courteous. Von Maur is close by and their clearance merch is awesome! EL has a a great online rewards program and they will engrave your lipstick if you order directly. Chanel sends the most beautiful packaging when you order directly from them. And don’t forget the Cosmetics Company Store at Simpsonville! There are so many alternatives to department store shopping these days. I have been really leaning into Kaia Beauty that I buy at Nordy’s. Shirley, if you don’t like people, why work with the general public? I will think twice before spending my...
Read moreSave your sanity - save your money. Go shop a place that will not only deliver your purchase but not lie to you multiple times over about where it is at months down the line. They charge you for delivery but make no attempt to actually deliver it, even after months down the road. Call customer service? They will lie to you over and over and over. Of course they say sorry for the inconvenience, but they aren't or I'd have what we paid for after all this time. Caught them in lies multiple times over. Wasn't on the truck? You said it was. Driver didn't show up? What do you mean we have to push it out a month? Truck didn't show up? Do you all understand how deliveries work? Call the specific service line and they are closed until forever. Don't call the specific service line, sorry we cannot help you until you call the number that we know will not response. Seriously, I would encourage every one you know not to shop here. If you follow up they give you a store credit - even though you cannot actually get what you paid for in the first place. Brick-and-mortar stores are struggling to survive and Macy's handles everything like they want to go out of business. I hope no one is buying...
