It pains me to give MPR 2 stars, as we had hoped for soo much better! 1. Check-in: painfully slow and the young lady who checked us in made no mention of us celebrating my wife's 40th birthday or our 7th anniversary (which were in reservation notes), and worst of all didn't even check that we booked the Romance package! Common sense should have alerted staff that we were possibly celebrating something. No mention of my wife's birthday or our anniversary on screens either. Guess no one reads the reservation notes. 2. Wine & Cheese: The house Chardonnay (as confirmed by waitress at Bistro on the Greens, who stated house wines are not good) was absolutely disgusting and tasted as though it had soured; we ended up pouring 3/4 of the bottle down the drain. This was, of course, AFTER we spent 25 minutes tracking down a wine opener...why would you offer a wine & cheese amenity WITHOUT having a way to open wine for guests!! 3. Room: Room 1250 (even though it's a suite) there are no views, just bushes out the window. The lighting is also quite insufficient for the room. However, a bright flood light right below your windows ensures you see light outside ALL night. Very small bathroom and window a/c units with ceiling fans. Opened Water bottle in closet was left by either previous guest (gross) or by staff (also gross) and didn't make us feel as though the rooms were thoroughly cleaned. 4. Round Island Grill: Fine for breakfast but lunch/dinner were underwhelming. It is the only restaurant on Monday, as rain closes Bistro on Green. Was served whitefish plate and the fish was at least 1-2 past its fresh date and shouldn't have been served to guests. Put expiring fish in dips, not as the main focus of a dish! 5. Theater: showing a movie without popcorn (when a popcorn machine is sitting on the bar) was disappointing. However, not as bad as a bat flying around the movie theater and staff not turning off lights for 10 minutes into movie, or not having a family remove a noisy child who was ruining everyone else's time. 6. Bistro on Green: Excellent Gyro and burger but beware of too much broth for mussels! Also, if your house wines aren't good just change them! 7. Staff: Most of the staff are Caribbean Islanders working on visas (as a form of cheaper labor for MPR) and be aware they continue to move at island speed so nothing is done with haste, even with upset customers. 8. Romance Pkg: Gives you $300 for food credit which MPR hopes you use at Chianti ($125/pp + 20% tip = $300). Don't fall for this, use it for Breakfast at Round Island Grill and lunch/Dinner at Bistro on the Green. And be ready for the piano player to play Kiss by a Rose by Seal during your 'fancy' Chianti dinner...yes really Seal! We did a lot of research before deciding on MPR and we were frustrated, upset, and left with a bad taste not only of MPR but Mackinac Island in general (due to issues at MPR). I don't know if we'll ever be back on M.I. but I can promise you we'd never stay at MPR again nor will we recommend it to any friends or family. Hopefully, MPR uses this review to prevent future guests from feeling like they wasted $1500 for 2 nights.

The service is outstanding. This was our 3rd or 4th trip to Mission Pointe and each time I see familiar faces. Tamika at the front desk is one of those classy, sophisticated ladies whose genuine kindness and grace can make anyone feel special. Quick to accommodate and explain things without making me feel dumb was very appreciated! While Tamika handled my clumsy self, Shequeira was friendly and welcoming to my teenager. Damian at the Round Restaurant was very engaging and thoughtful. Another gentleman (a local, I didn’t catch his name) was happy to answer my probably rather odd and personal questions about him, Island life and the history. I do realize they are working so I try not to gobble up their time. The waitress from Wales over at the Bistro was of particular interest to my teen who has a deep fondness for England and the waiter fellow that battled an aggressive wasp for me, I can’t thank him enough. A real treat was after not visiting for 3 years, when we moved to another room at the end of our stay, my teen and I wondered if Joette from Housekeeping was still around - and then, when we got in the room, there was a hand written note from Joette. I saved the last letter, and I’m saving this one too (they will become part of a collage from our trips). It is a lovely resort. The food is great but I was disappointed at the lack of options for my picky eater — I find her pickiness irritating but a hot dog at the Round would have been nice. Maybe add a few simple pasta dishes. I think there’s a resort tour for the gardens, I definitely plan to do that next time. The landscaping is lovely. I can’t keep my girl out of that arcade and I ended up with a blister playing Halo with her. That was a lot of fun. My girl found a wallet and a nice phone in the arcade. She turned them both in to the front desk so I hope the owners were relieved to get them back. I was very sorry to hear about Nick. 🥺

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Mission Point this past week. We originally booked two nights, but ended up adding a third because we were enjoying the island so much. When we finally arrived at check in, around 11pm we were greeted by Amoy who was wonderful. She was thorough in explaining where everything was, how to sign up for the activities, how to get to our room and even held a room for us in case we decided to stay a third night. When we went back the next night to extend our stay she remembered us, and ended up getting our same room for the next night at an even better rate. We had a great time visiting with her. She made us feel important and valued. Damien at the bar was exceptional as well. He remembered my name and what I drank when I went back my second night, as well as another bartender that was at the lobby bar (but I didn’t get her name). Justine was extremely pleasant when we did the flower pressing activity. We also got the bocce ball game to play on the front lawn and the young man at the bike rental was extremely nice in getting them for us. Besides the amazing service, the grounds were beautiful and it was fairly easy to get around. My only complaints were the flies at the bar but that’s also to be expected in a venue that has doors open on beautiful days. We were disappointed that the pretzel on the pretzel board is not warmed up either BUT that did not ruin the experience nor us enjoying the entire thing. I also wish the golf was free but we did enjoy taking in the other free activities. My friend really enjoyed the yoga. We are talking about visiting again in the future and staying here again.

I would love to leave a better review. If it was only based on the service and picturesque views, it would be a 5 star all day long. Unfortunately, I have to rate everything. We were in the Straights lodge. The bathroom had many broken and chipped tiles. There were so many that it made the room feel unclean. There was an opening in the vent to the shower that went nowhere. Again, it felt creepy. We had reserved a room for three and it was only set for two. Considering paying extra for a third person, this detail should have been reported to housekeeping while readying the room. Upon arrival, we were happy to see a coffee shop on the first floor. However, when we went to use it the next morning (8am), it was closed. The sign said it was to open at 7am. We had to call to report the missing staff member. I needed to use my own phone because the phone in our room did not work. The TV was beyond tiny. We also had a broken hairdryer. This could be quite a hazard. Since it is a large property, they should have some sort of bikes available to move around the property at no charge. The resorts boast to be extraordinary, yet it lacked attention to detail. If it were not for the views and the phenomenal staff, I could barely give it a 1 star. It is unlikely I would stay there again or recommend it to a friend. It was my first time to the island. The island and employees were well worth the trip. Unfortunately, the resort was a disappointment. I also believe for the rates charged, taxi to and from the hotel (all hotels) should be included.

This was our first visit to Mackinac Island. My wife and I were celebrating our 29th anniversary. I almost booked the Grand Hotel but after sifting through all the reviews I settled on Mission Point. I sprung for a suite and the romance package so we ended up around $950 per night so my expectations were pretty high. First the good. The grounds are beautiful and the location on the island is ideal. We were about 10 to 15 minute walk to the downtown area which I liked. The ferry with Sheplers and the hotel was seamless and went very smooth. Our room was spacious and very clean with an amazing view. Check in was pleasant and very easy. Dinner at Chianti was excellent. The most disappointing part of our stay was their lack of follow through on the romance package. We were to have wine and cheese upon check in but it was not there. I called and of course they were apologetic and said they would bring the following night. Kinda of missed the point but I’m pretty easy so ok fine. Next night total no show on wine again until I called. Wine finally arrived as we were headed out to dinner. The hotel should not promote these things if they can’t live up to perform on their promises especially for a nearly $1,000 per night room. The casual restaurant was also a disappointment. Sticky table and a lot of flies buzzing around our table. If I go back I would stay elsewhere.
