Shop is very clean and sanitary, aesthetically pleasing, the tattoo when finally done was very good, but tattoo artist's attitude and snobbery was not great.
This was several months ago now. Maybe it was just the two artists, but I don't think it's good business practice to roll your eyes when someone shows you the design they want because you don't "get it" - it wasn't anything gross, it was some drawing out of an old kids book we both liked growing up. Honestly, I wanted to try this place because they had fun social media, lots of female tattoo artists (which I'm in favor of - this is not a man's game and it never has been), and so I checked out several artists' personal socials with their work and thought it would be a safe bet.
A friend and had I planned for months to get a new tattoo each the next time she came to town (it's one of our traditions since she moved away, we're both very tattooed), and we came up with a design, had our reference photo for what we wanted and everything. We called ahead to see if they did walk-ins as my friend wasn't sure what her schedule would look like, they assured us they do, but call before we drive over because they sometimes get late rushes. I called right before we left, they said come on over we've got plenty of availability. We got out there, the guy at the front desk was kinda nice but not overly friendly, but the female tattoo artist sitting there with him tried everything in the book to not take us as clients when he said he was putting us with her because her salad had just arrived. I would've been fine waiting for her to eat first, we both said that to them, but she started huffing, then said, "well since you're being so cool I guess I can maybe do it," and then started questioning our design and saying stereotypical tattoo snob things like, "well nobody's going to get what it is." Every time we said, "that's the point, this is something personal between the two of us," we'd get a barely contained eye roll. The whole time she took the reference photo and started tracing it, she kept saying things like, "you know I have a client coming in soon." To which the receptionist was like, "in over an hour." "You know so-and-so doesn't have anyone right now either. My salad just got here. This is some weird thing, I don't think anyone's going to know what it is." And so on. She went to the back to check with the other artist after drawing a mock-up to see if the other person could take one of us so she'd have time to eat before her next appointment, and then stomped back out alone and got her station ready, then had both of us come back. She did my tattoo in under 40 minutes (they weren't huge) and it looked great, I was impressed and thought we'd moved on and it would be fine. As she was doing my friend's tattoo, another artist came out and gave her a pointed look, then started trying to socialize and be all, "oh that's interesting, what is it? Oh, that's not something I've heard of before. I don't think anyone's going to get what it's supposed to be" - all said very pointedly and very rehearsed. Our artist just went, "that's what I said," and gave a "well they didn't listen, did they" kind of look. We got done, bandaged up, and she went up to the front desk and started eating her salad and turned her back to us and completely ignored us while we paid.
So if you're doing something more conventional or popular and you want a fun, trendy art piece that masquerades as "edgy" and that doesn't necessarily have a lot of meaning behind it for you but that everyone else who ever looks at you will "get", this may very well be the shop for you. I think I will pass, because I'm a big ole nerd who's going to continue to get "weird" things tattooed on my body as I see fit. Overall great work but poor attitudes. I'll go back to the farther away shops where the female artists enjoy it every time I get a...
Ā Ā Ā Read more11/28/2022 So this is review #2, google doesnāt allow a separate review, soā¦. Thirteen Roses is still āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø! Yesterday, I celebrated my 50th birthday and I designed an image I wanted inked. Weeks ago, went through the simple process: phone call, emails with sketch, artist accepted, appointment scheduled, dropped off deposit. Went in tonight, met the artist Kevin, he took me through the steps and brought my birthday tat to life. He was smooth, steady, and meticulous with his work. He absolutely nailed the piece and I got 100% of what I envisioned. I am extremely pleased with the outcome. This shop has amazingly talented artists and I highly recommend them to anyone ready for their 1st or next tattoo. Thanks Kevin! š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹š¹ 1st tattoo review details 2020: I spoke with Pat about my idea at the shop, made an appt, and then shared a base pic and info via email. On the appt day, he went over the design, confirmed it was exactly what I wanted, and we got started. The whole process was efficient, professional, and highly considerate. He took into account not only the design idea on paper but the personal background basis for the tattoo. The final piece of work, now the morning after, far exceeds my expectation. The colors and design truly are exceptional and I am very pleased with his work as an artist. I found 13 Roses just by happenstance while driving through the area. I'm so glad I stopped there. They are holding to a very high standard in keeping with Covid-19 protocols which is appreciated. All staff and clients were masked. The staff wore gloves and the shop is exceptionally clean. I would definitely rebook with Pat for any future tats or piercings. He was personable, professional, and well trained in his...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my first experience at Thirteen Roses due to Rachelle moving there. I had eight tattoos prior to Rachelle and this was my fifth by her. The difference has been night and day. Rachelle is just the best at what she does and will do all of my future tattoos. I can take an idea in my head and describe it to her and she always creates a design better that I imagined. Same thing with drawings or art I send her...she always exceeds expectations. You can tell she cares and takes pride in her work. She has never rushed through the process or made me feel like I had to make a decision before I was ready. My most recent tattoo took the idea of the hanging heart from The Used album In Love and Death (artwork by Alex Pardee). I really like this image, but wanted to make the tree more prominent (wanted it to look creepy and give the appearance that it was in the middle of nowhere). Rachelle captured it perfectly as usual...the contrast of the red heart against the black tree turned out really cool. Like I said, she is the best and if you make an appointment with her, you will not be disappointed. I was very impressed with the environment at Thirteen Roses...very clean and professional. Front desk/reception employees were super nice...
