Very cute set up and I love the little area nestled in near downtown McKinney. I attended one of the group pottery wheel sessions. I think my expectations were set pretty high because I had seen so many photos of people creating two or sometimes even three really beautiful looking pottery pieces in these classes, but honestly, the class I was with really struggled, and I think part of the reasoning was the instructor we had. She made a point to say that she was still fairly new to pottery, and the instructions felt a bit confusing. Only half of the class walked away with more than one pot (even though in the description, it clearly says you will make two vessels) due to time constraints and the instruction being overly complicated, so that took up a large portion of the class and we barely had time to move onto a second one and most of us either had incomplete pieces or pieces that fell apart. I think the instructor tried her best, but I could tell she was getting frustrated with people if they weren’t doing it her way, which was making others in the class frustrated. For anyone who looks to take one of these, I recommend trying to find a class with someone who’s been doing pottery for longer. Just kind of a bummer when you pay almost $90 for a class that promises two pieces and you only walk away with one. It also took a long time to get our pieces back, as our class was in mid-July and we didn’t get our pieces until September. Additionally, I found it strange that they just keep all the finished pieces on their porch 24-7. I know there’s a camera but what’s to say someone won’t come up and take them? Might be willing to try it again with a more experienced instructor, but probably...
Read moreMy daughter was in Ms. Wendolin's pottery day camp this summer. From the get go, Ms. Wendolin was extremely rude to myself and one of the other parents there dropping kids off. She seemed annoyed and was belittling at every opportunity. My daughter enjoyed the projects they did in the camp very much. She said it was a good group of kids and she liked the cat on the property. However she was embarrassed when she slipped on water on the floor and Ms Wendolin called her out and said "Oh now you're kicking my chairs? strike one." And when someone asked what time it was she said "I don't have time for those kind of questions, everyone wear a watch tomorrow." I also found it odd that when camp is over, they just release the kids out of the room and into the driveway/yard of the house. There is no checkout procedure to make sure that the kids go home with their correct adults. Any adult standing there could've taken a child. When we left on the final day Ms Wendolin said "some of their pieces will be ready for pick up the last week of September. you can come get them then." so I asked "will you email us when they're ready and how to pick them up?" she said "NO, I'm telling you now, the last week of September they will be left outdoors. you just walk up and grab the pottery." (assuming they are in good condition being left outside unattended.) I have a very low bar for customer service type interactions - but basic respect and safety is kinda the minimum I...
Read moreMcKinney Art House has easily become our favorite place to camp. My girls (ages 7&9) took Pottery Camp with Ms. Wendolin - they absolutely LOVED it. Camp runs from 9a-3p and even showing up 10 minutes prior to pick up, my girls do not want to leave, literally asking my husband and I to let them finish out their last 10 minutes. This pottery camp is not your run of the mill camp - it's truly hands on learning on a wheel where they create beautiful projects (Mom & Dad both aiming to earn the cereal bowls that the girls have made LOL). Aside from the learning, working with their hands, having messy fun and making new friends, their teacher Ms. Wendolin has made them feel so comfortable and has given them a real sense of belonging. The camp kids are able to enjoy the courtyard, have popsicles on a swing and really feel like they are a part of the camp, not just attending it. I honestly can't say enough great things, the proof is really in the fact that we've signed up for more camp weeks because they love it so much and don't want to leave. As a parent, I'm super grateful that my girls have found a place to be creative &...
