Nice Hotel With Several Room Issues
First of all, I was given the wrong room and not told about it in advance or when I checked in. I had to lug my luggage to the room and then return to the front desk to find out why they placed me in the wrong room. Second, and this is a DEAL-KILLER for all future stays: The walls are too thin and not sound-proofed in any way. I have NEVER been in a hotel with such poor-quality walls, really incredibly thin walls. The rooms in my home are better built than at this hotel. This means, I can never bring my wife (or a friend) with me here. Neither of us would feel comfortable saying anything to each other knowing everyone can hear us. Most of the guests are business people, and they conduct zoom and FaceTime calls, so you can hear entire conversations on both sides of the room. One man in a neighboring room was obviously conducting a phone call on FaceTime. Even though he was speaking in a normal voice, I could hear BOTH sides of the conversation as if I was in HIS room. I had to knock on his door to let him know that I could hear his entire conversation and that he had no privacy. He appreciated knowing this.
There were many other issues with my room: Water pressure is too low. The ceiling fan controls are too high to reach without using a chair or stool (why would you do this?). The sink stopper requires touching the stopper itself to operate which is gross and shouldn't be necessary. Moreover, because of the shape of the stopper, if you ever dropped anything, it would get underneath the stopper because it is shaped like a dome (did no one see this as a prohibitive feature?). This makes doubly bad design for those people who use contact lenses. The hot and cold faucet controls at the sink don't work well. The light switch placement is odd and unergonomic; the most common switch you need i.e. the light switch is farthest from the door, so you're always turning on the wrong thing when you first enter the bathroom. Moreover, you can't turn on the light by itself; it always turns on with the bathroom fan which means if you don't want to wake up your spouse in the middle of the night with the fan noise, it's not possible. This was not designed by a professional designer; this was simply installed by a contractor with no thought put into it. In the shower, there is no place to put your shampoo, conditioner, etc. You have to put it on the floor which, again, is gross and shouldn't be necessary. Finally, there is no clock or alarm clock in the room. It's a nice historic hotel, but the rooms have too many ergonomic and comfort issues for me to justify...
Read moreMy wife and I recently celebrated our anniversary with a delightful stay at The Grand Hotel in downtown McKinney. It was our first time at this establishment, and it exceeded our expectations in every way.
Upon our arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to find that downtown McKinney was hosting the "Home for the Holidays" event. This added an extra layer of charm to our visit, and we were warmly welcomed by the hotel receptionist, Berry. Her hospitality was outstanding, and she made us feel right at home from the moment we stepped through the door.
Our room, located on the second floor, exuded a historical charm that we truly appreciated. The clean and well-maintained atmosphere added to the overall experience. We had zero complaints about the room – it was near perfect, contributing to a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
I must commend Berry and the entire staff for their dedication to customer service. Their attention to detail and commitment to making guests feel welcome truly sets The Grand Hotel apart. If I were to rate our experience, it would undoubtedly be a 5-star stay.
The location of The Grand Hotel in downtown McKinney further enhanced our visit. The historical atmosphere of the area, coupled with the warmth of the local residents, made our time there truly memorable. We have always been fond of downtown McKinney, and this stay only solidified our love for its unique charm.
During our visit, we had the pleasure of dining at a nearby restaurant called the Urban Grill. The culinary experience was nothing short of amazing, adding another layer of satisfaction to our overall stay.
In conclusion, our anniversary weekend at The Grand Hotel was exceptional. The combination of historical ambiance, impeccable service from staff like Berry, and the vibrant atmosphere of downtown McKinney made it a perfect getaway. We look forward to returning and highly recommend The Grand Hotel to anyone seeking a memorable and delightful stay in...
Read moreArrived to the hotel at 3:45 PM on a rainy and cold Saturday in order to stay the night and attend a wedding at The Cotton Mill. The valet and check in went smooth. However, upon arrival in room 213 we were met with a 67 degree room. I quickly adjusted the thermostat from cool to heat and bumped the setting up to 78 degrees. Took a quick shower, got dressed, called the front desk for our car, and left for the wedding, anticipating a nice and toasty room upon our arrival later in the evening. We arrived back to the Hotel around 11:30 PM, stopped in the bar for a drink and hot tea for my wife as she was chilled. We then got into the room around midnight anticipating a nice toasty room and it was still freezing. My first I thought was that I must have not adjusted the thermostat correctly. I double checked and it was set to heat and 78 degrees but the temperature in the room was still reading 67 degrees. I turned the thermostat off and then back to heat, set the temperature to 75, and went to bed. The next morning I woke up around 7 AM hoping for a warm room but the temperature reading was still at 67 degrees. I took a warm shower, got dressed, went down to the front desk and let the receptionist know of the issue. She replied with, "Oh, I'm sorry, I'll let maintenance know so that they can take a look at it this week." She then went back to her computer, I stood there stunned, turned, and walked over to the Snug coffee shop (I highly recommend their breakfast sandwiches). I came back to the room, which was still holding steady at 67 degrees, and we had breakfast in bed. We didn't check out until 11 AM and the heater never did work. Other than no heat, I have no complaints. For a $200 plus dollar a night room though, I expect heat and a little...
