A decent park during the day. Wells Park, located next to the Melbourne Auditorium and close to the public library, is a quiet, low-key spot that serves as a simple outdoor escape. It’s not flashy or heavily updated—in fact, parts of it feel a bit run down—but it still has a certain charm, especially if you’re looking for a peaceful place to walk, sit, or enjoy some time outside during the daylight hours. In the recent past I have seen lots of homeless there and would not feel safe there after dark. They recently posted signs I believe to counteract this problem and on this recent visit I did not see any on the south side of the park. The park features two small lakes that are home to a good number of geese and ducks. The times I have visited recently, they are almost always wandering around or lounging near the water. Kids and adults seem to love feeding them, though they can be a little bold when they’re expecting food. In fact several of them came to visit as soon as I parked and stepped out of my car. There are a few picnic tables and shaded areas, though some of the infrastructure—like benches and walkways—could use a refresh. There is a fenced in playground that seemed decent with swings and slides and kids using them. Overall, during the day, Wells Park doesn’t have fancy amenities, but it does offer space to stretch your legs, read a book, or enjoy a quiet moment by the water. Its proximity to the library and auditorium makes it a convenient spot for a quick break. It’s not a destination park, but if you’re in the area, it’s a decent place to stop and relax...
Read moreThis park is in a nice location next to the library and the Melbourne Auditorium with a great view of the lake and all different varieties of birds. One may ask why 2 stars, the homeless make this place not somewhere I would recommend someone go, especially with their kids. My wife and I took our niece and nephew there waiting for a family member to meet at another local place. There were a few homeless individuals under the tree next to the park, screaming obscenities. I can look past that and didn't really bother me. A homeless man trying to open my passenger door while I was loading the kids and Let's add the guy had an 8" knife on his side, which made me a little more apprehensive. The worst part is that there was a sheriff's car sitting in front of the library and for this guy to be that brazen. Luckily, I had the sense to lock the doors while loading the children, and the guy walked away once he realized he wasn't getting...
Read moreI love this park. Yep, way too much bird poop on the sidewalks. The water is pretty and soothing and the park is well maintained. The picnic area is nice and you can bring your dog. Yes there are homeless people there too. A few ruin things for the whole. All the new apartments being built are using the SAIL Govt loan program, so they don't have to give up 10% of the apartments for low income. While some homeless are waiting for apartments for up to a year. In the meantime, if you offer food to any homeless people, you will get a $300 ticket. If the homeless people stand on the Library property before 7am they are...
