This is a beautiful park in Merriam, Kansas. It’s a great spot to enjoy a bit of nature without needing to leave the city. It’s a peaceful area and it had two decent sized ponds, both had walking paths and benches around them. There is many places to have a picnic or just sit down and relax and take in some fresh air. We saw a duck, lots of geese, a box turtle, robins and a hawk on our short visit. The park is not small but not massive, so you can walk around and see everything in about an hour I’d say. There is lots of paved walking paths but also some trails in a wooded section with a creek running through it. Just beautiful. There is covered pavilions/gazebos for picnics or hanging out. Fishing is allowed in the ponds and it said they were stocked with largemouth bass and catfish. If you want to experience a slice of nature without leaving the metro this is your place. Easily one of the nicest city parks I’ve been to in Johnson County. Good job Merriam! I will be back in springtime for a picnic with the...
Read moreIf you are looking for a free activity to do with your little one this is the place to be! There are three playgrounds close proximity to each other! My toddler runs between the playgrounds for endless fun. Bored of playgrounds or looking for a nice stroll? They have a decent sized pond you can stroll around. Wildlife such as turtles, fish, ducks and geese can be spotted. During the weekends this park can get busy. Everyone we have encountered has been friendly. If you dont like paved paths they have a small nature trail you can stroll on as well. Grills are available.as well as a basketball court and tennis courts. In the summer they typically have a ranger walking around that is more than happy to answer your questions. My only complaint is that people sometimes dont pick up all of their trash. So please if you see a wrapper or piece of paper floating by please...
Read moreI've loved this park since I was a youngn and they've made some great improvements. Started taking my son there to fish and run energy off. Today was great, he caught 7 fish and a turtle, I of course only caught a turtle lol! I've always thought they should have turtle park somewhere in the name. I released a foot long goldfish when I was 7ish at the park, I wonder if its still swimming... Great place to take your kids, have a BBQ, Parties, and there's a new shelter being built right now. Just remember social distancing and keep smiling. People can tell if you're smiling even with a mask on by how you great in passing. Thanks Parks and Rec for taking great care of...
