R House Wynwood — Attraction in Miami

I'm a local and trust me when I say ... spend your money elsewhere. The only thing I enjoyed from my experience was the artistry of the queens. Everything else was super disappointing. In summary, the drinks were watery (the kind that give you a major headache afterwards), the seats were uncomfortable, and the food and service were mid.

The minute I walked in, we get to our table in the patio, and I get a chair that is right under the scorching hot summer sun. The entire patio was empty except for 1 other table. We asked to be moved to a table with shade and our server said no but that we can all 3 squeeze into the shaded side of our current table. It was so tight so we asked to take the small empty table next to us and push it into ours to make it more comfortable for us. Again, he said no. It would've taken 0 effort to accommodate us with this request and mind you - the entire patio remained empty through closing time, so the table was never used.

The brunch was $60 and it included unlimited mimosas, mojitos or sangrias and a pre-fixed menu, family style. I typically don't order unlimited drinks at restaurants anymore because the quality of the drinks are disastrous and I end up with a huge headache. Sure enough, the drinks were one of the worst I've ever had at any restaurant and my friends ended up with a headache afterwards. The best thing I did was opt in for a mocktail instead (which are included in the brunch) and it was actually very delicious. I ordered the Spicy Smoked Mango Margarita mocktail.

The food was ok, nothing to write home about, but it wasn't bad. There was a part of the show where a few volunteers got up and they sprayed them down with a hose. We were never warned about this activity and all of that water got into our food and drinks. Our food was just sitting there soggy and wet and they didn't even offer to replace our food. We just stopped eating after that.

At the restroom, there was a bit of a line but it wasn't too bad, and the bathroom attendant was giving everyone attitude about where they could stand and wait. It was so irritating to receive that kind of treatment when you're simply waiting to use the restroom.

Let me start by saying this: My Husband of 16 years, my best friend of 10 years and I, visited this location, This incredible business has truly embraced diversity in a way that is unparalleled. The staff exceeded all expectations when it came to customer service. Now, let me share my experience for those who may have a different perspective due to their own biased upbringing. It was my birthday, and to be honest, ever since the tragic events at Pulse Orlando where I lost friends, I had not stepped foot in any gay-friendly establishment. I had lost faith in my own LGBTQ+ community. As someone who identifies as a gypsy, born and partially raised in Chicago, Illinois, then living in Puerto Rico until I graduated high school, and later moving to Brooklyn and now calling the Bronx my hometown, I had my reservations. However, my best friend, who refers to himself as a snowbird, convinced me to visit this particular location in Wynwood/Miami, Florida. I thought, why not? I'm 44 years old and haven't been a part of my own community since the Orlando incident. And let me tell you, I have absolutely no regrets. We decided to go for brunch, and every penny we spent there was worth it. Our server was not only easy on the eyes, but also incredibly kind, down-to-earth, and non-judgmental. I even suspect he may be straight! He treated us like family, just like everyone else in the establishment. The drag queens put on an outstanding performance, nailing every routine, and even took the time to meet and greet the audience afterwards. And those who some might label as go-go dancers, I prefer to call them talented cultural entertainers and LGBTQ+ educators. They came out and dazzled the guests with their unique performances. But what truly sets this place apart from others is when the guest servers took the stage and showcased their own talents. I won't say much more because you really need to experience it for yourself. As a small business owner of a salon in Orlando, FL, and with extensive experience in the service industry as a server, bartender, and manager, I expected a much higher level of service during my visit.

Starting with the positives, the food was delicious, and the entertainment was fantastic. We travel nationwide to support RuPaul’s Drag Race queens as well as local drag performers. Although Werq the World brought us to town, we came primarily to support the local drag scene, which made the experience important to us.

Unfortunately, our server, Javiel, did not meet expectations. Communication was minimal, and he did not explain the menu or offerings. I requested a cup of water but never received it, forcing me to go to the bar myself. I also asked for change for the drag queens at our table but did not get it until I asked another server. Additionally, I had to request a refill on mimosas, which were advertised as unlimited, making me feel like I did not get my money’s worth.

This reflects a common issue when gratuity is automatically added: servers may not feel incentivized to provide attentive service since they receive a tip regardless. Javiel’s lack of effort was clear throughout the evening. On a table of two spending $150, poor service is unacceptable. I came for an experience, and while the food and entertainment were great, the service ruined it.
