Iāve been coming to Sana with my membership for about 2 years now. Iāve always loved my visits so much that I even upgraded from the standard facial to the premium 80-minute one. My previous skin healer, Julia, was absolutely wonderful, attentive, detailed, and genuinely relaxing to be around. Since she left, Iāve been seeing Sharon, and after giving her three chances, including my appointment today, I can confidently say it will be my last with her. This is why Iām giving 3 stars because my experience with Sharon has been 1 star.
The first time I met her, she asked me to lie down right away even though my facial included the neck and dĆ©colletĆ© area, which requires a robe. I had to ask for it. I had also booked an add-on with extra time, but she didnāt keep track of it and said she couldnāt accommodate it even though I had booked it a month in advance.
She never begins the service with the essential oil ritual, and the first 2 appointments didnāt include the arm or hand massage. The face and dĆ©colletĆ© massage didnāt feel like a massage at all, more like really light touching and stroking. It was awkward and uncomfortable. Even with the gua sha, she just ran it across my face lightly. I kindly asked her multiple times to apply more pressure, but by the time she adjusts, the massage portion is nearly over. She also didnāt cleanse the neck and dĆ©colletĆ© area, she skipped that step and prepped it with oil for the message. All of the steps of the facial are never extended down. She also didnāt cleanse my under eyes (see below).
To make matters worse, strands of my hair kept falling on my face and she wouldnāt move it to the side or readjust the head wrap, and when I mentioned it, she said, āSorry I didnāt see it, I also close my eyes while you close your eyes.ā That really alarmed me because how can an esthetician perform any aspect of the treatment with their eyes closed? It certainly explained why she didnāt notice. At one point, as she was leaning over me, she was actually pulling on my hair, so I had to lift my head several times. When I set my hair to the side and mentioned the strands bothering me, she told me my hair needed to be fully back and then continued leaning on my hair.
She also doesnāt dim the room lights, so thereās a bright light shining directly over you the whole time. Itās jarring for a spa experience. Honestly, Iām quite shocked that Julia recommended her to me because they couldnāt be more different in their technique and energy.
The part that truly ruined the experience was at the end. I looked in the mirror and was shocked to see that my entire under-eye area was covered in black mascara that hadnāt been cleansed off. My eyes were burning, and I had to use a towel to wipe it off myself then had to ask for an eye cream I could apply. I had to go home and wash my face. Never in my countless amount of facials have I ever felt the need to wash my face after a facial. I donāt understand how she didnāt notice. I didnāt even come in wearing makeup, just a bit of leftover mascara residue on my lashes. When I mentioned it, she laughed it off with a quick āsorry.ā
I tried to be polite and even left a tip, but I left feeling very upset and disappointed. I actually got emotional on the drive home because Iāve always trusted Sana and felt cared for here, but this time I didnāt feel valued for the amount I paid. It wasnāt relaxing, it wasnāt worth the price, and I wonāt be going back to Sana until this is resolved.
That said, Liam at the front desk and the management team have been very kind so far, and theyāve reassured me that they will take this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI would like to preface this by saying this is not a negative review of Sana at all, just a negative review of my experience yesterday. I am giving 3 stars because I do not want to affect the overall rating of Sana, but unfortunately, I cannot rate the skin healer separately.
I have been a loyal member of the Sana Skin Club for nearly three years, attending my monthly facial appointments like it is a religion. I usually go to Alina, but she was out sick yesterday. The team members offered me an alternative skin healer, so that I could keep my monthly facial schedule on track, which I was grateful for. However, what I experienced with Stephanie was neither healing nor relaxing.
Stephanie started by asking me, "How long have you been coming to Sana?" I told her, "About three years." She responded, "Oh wow, with the same person?" To which I responded, "I started with one person, but she left. I have been with Alina ever since."
She proceeded to question whether I have seen any "improvements in my skin" to which I expressed to her "this is the best my skin has ever looked," which is a true statement. From that point, Stephanie proceeded to criticize the regimen Alina has me on making remarks throughout my entire service like, "I'm not sure why she doesn't have you using XYZ. Are you happy with your skincare routine? Are you happy with your skin? You must sweat a lot because your pores are clogged," implying that my skin is "bad." I expressed to her that I recently started hot yoga, so I have been sweating a lot more recently - but I do not think that is a reflection of my skincare regimen or experience with Alina, but perhaps that I just need to do something differently or add an extra step into my routine - to which she recommended a clay mask.
Stephanie proceeded to give me the roughest extractions I have ever felt in my life, to the point that when I left, my nose was literally burning from the pressure. At the end of the service, she asked me if I wanted her to wait out front to give me the recommendations that she had for me. I responded, "Yes, and I know I'm interested in the clay mask." I stood out front waiting to see her recommendations for nearly 10 minutes before I realized that she merely gave the clay mask to the receptionist to check me out and avoided any further interaction.
The receptionist was incredibly understanding and even comped my add-on for the day, which I was grateful for. I have never left Sana feeling less confident about my skin. As someone who has struggled with acne for most of my life and has had insecurities with my skin, this is not the experience I expected to have simply because I went to an alternative person. I would recommend Sana, but not Stephanie if you are looking for a gentle, relaxing,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt was an alright experience. The girl who did my facial (I selected to do the The SuperGlow because I have sensitive skin) was very good at explaining everything she was doing, how she was going to do it and what each product was. She asked before we started if I just wanted to relax or if I would like her to explain, which was very courteous of her. I do not have the best skincare routine, so I requested that she explains everything so I can improve my routine. The girl at the front desk was not very invested in helping me when it came to check out. My office is right across the street and I was planning to do a monthly membership as I was convinced this would be something nice to treat my skin to once a month or so. But when it came to check out, there were 3 other ladies just standing around who were waiting to be called in, and the girl who did my facial was just showing me the different products I should buy, quickly turning it into a very uncomfortable situation. ( I wish she would've done this in the room, where it was a more private place to talk, but I felt like everyone was just staring at me while she was explaining what my skin needs). I had to tell her I was not interested right now and that I would just like to pay. Her demeanor changed when I refused to buy a product... The girl at the front desk was quick to check me out, not even mentioning what the two plans were for a monthly membership. She just pointed at the wall and said "those are our plans" and that was it. I wasn't sold so I just paid and went on my merry way. Will I come back to this place? Probably not. Would I recommend this place to friends? eh......
