This is an update to my previous review of the Y. As far as amenities and equipment the YMCA is great. Its a fantastic place for a variety of activities. Many of the staff do a very good job. Its a decent price for whats available to the members.
The one star rating is because of the way the Y runs from the top. The CEO, Roger, makes approximately $155,000 per year (publicly available information), claiming to work 50 hours per week. Ive spent a lot of time at the Y and I find it very hard to believe that he's actually there for that amount of time (personal speculation).
Most of the staff get paid a very low wage for the hard work they do. Its 2022, yet the Y pays many of its employees under $10 an hour. There shouldn't be a single position under $10 an hour. McDonald's is currently hiring starting at $15 per hour.
The board members do not know what the younger crowd really wants and they sometimes get special treatment, like having a key and getting access to the Y outside of operating hours, while the employees are told that they cannot have access outside of hours.
The Y always talks about how they can't afford anything yet they can afford to pay the CEO a ridiculous salary. Its unfortunate that Roger can sleep soundly knowing that the people who actually make the YMCA succeed are not treated fairly. Shame on him and some of the...
Read moreExcellent facility that is well maintained and clean. Two separate weight areas, one is more casual near the cardio equipment and the other dedicate to heavy weightlifting. Even at busy times there is generally enough equipment to keep yourself moving through a workout. If you can’t then you aren’t being creative enough with your exercises. There is also a CrossFit group that has their own space, a dedicated circuit training area, and plyometrics spaces and equipment near the track. The hot tub, dry sauna, and steam rooms located within each of the adult locker rooms is a huge benefit that sets this facility apart from the ordinary gym. There are also small lockers to rent out on a monthly/yearly basis that are extremely affordable. The staff is always very friendly and welcomes you every time you come in the door. The membership fee is extremely affordable and they offer family packages and deals throughout the year to bring down your cost even more. It is a great all around facility and they are very...
Read moreWas a member from 2007 to 2012 and this facility has a lot to offer, from the single person to the family folk there's plenty. I would recommend the Minot YMCA to anyone. I also went to ASK, and trained at the base gym but none can beat being able to go to the hot tub or the saunas on a cold night or the pool on a hot day. Having multiple dressing rooms/lockers rooms with huge showers and T.Vs in them was great. The equipment isn't top notch when I was there but it'll get...
