It's a real shame that one of the best burgers I've ever had is about 6 hours away from me in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Alas, if I have to schedule a vacation around making sure I go here every summer it wouldn't be the worst thing.
I'm always on the hunt for a flavorful and hopefully local good burger. The US is full of easy quick and basic burgers on every corner so much so that it's too boring to even be able to enjoy. Luckily before hunting down the many waterfalls in Munising we spied this place and made it a stop after a good long hike. And...
Probably one of the most incredible juicy flavorful rich meaty burgers I've ever had, with good side choices too! I got the Great White Bison Burger which came with a couple things including sharp white cheddar and grilled onions. But the dijonnaise side? That was amazing on the burger. We um, might have driven again later in the week to try the cheese curds (ask for dijonnaise to dip it's worth it) and also the whitefish basket which is seasonal. The whitefish was melt in your mouth and delicious and the tartar sauce was tart and sweet and sour and salty in just the right degrees. My only complaint is that it's a really small amount of fish for the price. But it's definitely quality. If you're looking for a treat try it, but don't expect to fill up on it.
The fries are crispy crunchy on the outside, salted well, and warm and hot on the inside. I love how they are served in white cups, it makes you reach in for the crunchy little bits left on the bottom. I like how they change up the menu and have little specials so you might just run into something unique for a short amount of time.
It has a nice spacious indoor area, and a great little seated area facing the beautiful waters out back. If you're in Munising for touring by boat, checking out the waterfalls, or vacationing, this is...
Read moreWe ordered the Eh! burger, the buffalo chicken sandwich and the cheese tots. The burger was great. The buffalo chicken was tasty and high quality, but it was way too messy. Ended up with a large puddle of runny sauce. The cheese tots were inedible and we threw most of them away, which considering they were $9, sucked. They had way too much cheese sauce-they were drowning in it. And the cheese sauce was awful: Gloppy, day-glow orange, flavorless. The few tots that weren’t covered in sauce seemed good though. Next time I would just order the tots without the cheese sauce. The ordering process was a mess. The only menus are on the walls behind the 2 registers, and the descriptions of each item are in tiny font. So unless you’ve been there before, you can’t begin to decide what to order until you get up to the register. And even then the tiny font is almost impossible to read. This really slows down the line. The specials are on a small counter display AFTER the 2nd register. So if you order at the 1st register, you don’t even see them until after you have placed your order and are on your way to fill your soda cups. They really need to find a way to make the menus and specials readable before you get to the registers, so you can be deciding what to order while you’re in line (or before you get in line). Finally, while the interior is cute, the tables are too close together. On both sides of us we had people who needed to have their chairs pulled out far from their tables, forcing me to sit in the aisle because there was no room for me to sit back-to-back at my table. I think this place has a lot of potential, but it needs some...
Read moreAtmosphere feels very much like a trivia bar night, without the trivia, so that's disappointing but not bad. I could definitely see a fun trivia or karaoke night! Gives the vibe of a bar and Culver's chain combined, in a good way. Lottts of different seating options, and it looks like it has a fun deck in the back! It's also got a huge bathroom! I fully expected a tiny 2-stall or even a single, but 3 stalls in the women's room, all with a large doorway and ample space for wheelchairs, though only the middle stall had stability bars. Now on to the food!: LOVED the variety of sandwiches, and the ordering process was made much easier by the employee on register; they were incredibly patient AND good at explaining the options - perfect for first-time eaters. The drinks are self serve, the coffee was good (a local blend!), and I was impressed with the size of the portions for the pricing on one of the Lil Eh! combos. The pattymelt was HUGE, my friend said it tasted great, and we'd be up for trying the other specialty creations in the future. Plus, there was a santa dinosaur, dressed to impress, right when you first walk in. But speaking of walking... there are a couple tables on the ground level, so easy for a wheelchair to access, but no way for a wheelchair or walker to enter the building - there are 6 or so 4" steps up into the building proper, and it didn't seem like there were any other entryways besides the back deck, which is raised and with many steps as well. Ultimately, a great burger joint, and I'd love to see it in the...
