The Gallery Company in Munising is an absolute gem that brilliantly combines art, history, and community spirit. From the moment you step through the doors, you’re welcomed into a beautifully restored historic building with stunning architectural details — like the striking blue coffered ceiling, vintage wood accents, and even a remarkable antique safe that adds a wonderful character to the space.
The heart of the Gallery, though, is the breathtaking photography that celebrates the rugged beauty of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and Lake Superior. Massive, museum-quality prints bring you face to face with crashing waves, autumn leaves drifting on water, dramatic cliffs, and magical light dancing across the Pictured Rocks shoreline. The way these images are displayed against the exposed stone and wood interior makes you feel like you’re immersed in nature itself, without ever leaving the gallery walls.
Beyond the art, The Gallery Company also offers a cozy, inviting coffee shop area with plenty of seating, where you can sip your drink while surrounded by world-class photography. There’s a warm, welcoming vibe here — you feel free to wander, look closely, and really experience each piece of art at your own pace. The staff are friendly and happy to answer questions, sharing their passion for the local arts and the stories behind the photography.
I was also impressed with how well the gallery preserves the building’s historic charm while creating a modern, inspiring gathering place. It’s so much more than just a gallery — it’s a living celebration of the UP’s natural beauty and artistic spirit. Whether you’re an art lover, a coffee drinker, or simply someone who appreciates Lake Superior, this place is a must-visit. I can’t recommend it...

We requested 2 small cups of bold coffee. The cups were handed to us with the cup covers already on them. We walked over to the sugar/creamer/etc. area to add creamer and sugar. When we removed the covers, both cups were filled exactly to the rim (no spare room at all). They were so full that any slight movement caused hot coffee to spill over the rim onto our hands.
We then started to pour a very small amount of the hot coffee into the large garbage can next to the creamer/sugar area. The garbage was lined with an industrial strength garbage bag.
The barista BARKED "Don't pour coffee into my garbage can!" We responded with "It's spilling because it's too full, and surely that's better than spilling onto the floor." She immediately SNAPPED back with "You should have told me to leave room at the top for you!"
In all GOOD coffee establishments that I've been in, the barista has always asked me if I wanted room left at the top. If the barista doesn't ask, it's assumed that there will be room at the top. Perhaps this barista doesn't understand what customer relationships...
Read moreI loved this gallery & coffee shop!! I was in Munising for a lil vaca w my boyfriend. We loved the art work & photography in the gallery. It was local and beautiful, also really spacious with plenty of seating (though we were in and out). I got a cool beanie. I like going to different local coffee shops to try different varieties of coffees/cold brews, as well as supporting them! I was happy to see they had some clothes/hats and even art work to purchase. This is for sure a must if you enjoy some peace, space, and gorgeous art. As for the coffee, I got the cold brew and it’s soooo good. Really smooth, bold, and flavorful- paired nicely with syrup and oat milk added. My bf got a latte and muffins & also loved it. The employees were very kind, and also knowledgeable which I love. Whenever we come back thru the UP in the future, we definitely will stop in again. Thank you to the baristas/staff there for creating a great environment and atmosphere, and treating...
