I love this coffee shop. It is very conveniently located, just one block away from the beautiful Coliseum Square Park - and located on Magazine Street, one of the most charming streets in New Orleans. The dining area is very large and a great place to hang out and work with your computer etc. They dutifully enforce the New Orleans policy about proof of Covid vaccination before sitting in the dining area. The coffee is great and the ambience outside is super. I have three major complaints: 1) The breakfast sandwiches are 90% bread and not worth the money. The only really value I have found is to drop it on the ground and let my dog pillage it. She especially liked doing that with the Boudin burrito. It gave her about 10 minutes of fun and made her very content. But if you like the Boudin cuisine, you can get a much better deal by going to Poppa’s hotdog stand at the corner of Saint Charles and Martin Luther King. Their Boudin sausage is wonderful. I wrote a wonderful Google review for them. 2) The second major complaint I have is that there is a huge hole in the pavement out in front of the building - right next to one of the chairs. I myself fell back into that hole - I needed somebody else to pull me out of my chair. 3) Disastrous disinterest in customer feedback and lack of resourcefulness to do things that might improve the place. When I attempted to talk to Paul, the morning manager, about the hole in the pavement, he totally stonewalled me - claimed there was absolutely nothing he could do about it and seemed totally disinterested that it is a serious accident waiting to happen. I had a similar experience this morning, when I attempted to give some feedback about the breakfast burritos. He never once showed any interest in what I had to say, said that the owner is in charge of that - and gave me no help in finding a way to talk to the owner. He has an extraordinarily low sense of resourcefulness about what he can do to make the restaurant better – and a drastic lack of concern for customer feedback. These are very serious failings in a customer service professional, much less a customer service manager. I would recommend that you use this coffee shop for the ambience and the coffee, but not for food. You will do better getting a breakfast sandwich at almost any fast food joint. And if you want a great breakfast, go up to Please U on Saint Charles. Their breakfast is as good as I have found anywhere – and the retro diner theme is not fabricated, but left over from its origin in 1946, the year of my birth. You can see more of what I have to say about this wonderful restaurant on my Google review.

Three years after moving from New Orleans, I visited and went to Mojo on Magazine. In the years I’ve been gone the store has gone through a renovation and more than doubled their seating space. This is great and was really needed! There was never a time I visited Mojo when seating wasn’t tight before this. The coffee and lemonade are still brilliant and, if your order a pourover, it’s served in a smart little device that will help keep your coffee warm as you take your time enjoying it. Whether you’re just passing through or living in New Orleans but have never been to Mojo, do yourself a favour and go. (Bonus: since it’s open very late—til 1 a.m. on some nights—you can wrap up your night out there.)

I thought my wife had lost her mind when she rolled up with a coffee version of an Arnold Palmer - half lemonade, half coffee. Yuck. Then I tasted it, and I was like 👀 let’s go get you one because I’m not giving this back. The flavor combination sounds weird, but it’s a delightful way to enjoy a midday cup of coffee in the sun and humidity. The vibes inside were just as nice. Clean spot, quick and super kind barista, and the bathroom is like a mini hidden museum. I spent longer just soaking up the walls than I did going to the bathroom. This place was cool. We’ll be back next time we’re at Surrey’s up the street.

I have three major complaints:

Good place, but a few very not nice experiences:

The employees at Mojo (this location) are typically very hospitable and friendly, however on this day, it was a different story. I went in, ordered and the payed for my order, the guy who took it got it wrong. I ordered: an oatmeal cookie, a burrito, a croissant, and a chai latte. This employee put oat milk in my latte instead of handing me my oatmeal cookie, I had ordered. I then reminded another staff member of the cookie I had ordered. After doing so, I was then accused of stealing because I “was trying to get something I hadn’t paid for”. After this, I was then told that “if you try to get something you didn’t pay for again you will not be allowed back in here”. I showed the employee who called me a thief my receipt, and explained my order had been rung up wrong. He did not apologize for calling me a thief, and my order was not fixed. The staff member who did this was a big burly guy with a mustache. While on the subject of bad experiences at this location, I have something else to mention; while using the restroom at this location, I, as well as a guest I’ve brought with me, have been either barged in on (by employees), or have had employees knock excessively on the door. It brings me a wave of negative emotions to write this review as I love the food and drinks this place serves. PS: I want to reiterate that this was a first, and customer service is typically very good. I would love to come back and order again, but until these issues are fixed, I will not be ordering...

Suggestions: Iced chocolate latte, Cortado, Cappuccino Price: $4-ish per drink Pros: Cool atmosphere, great espresso, they roast their own coffee, good handmade syrups Cons: Staff seems a little standoff-ish sometimes (border lining on rude at times), can get packed

Thoughts: We ended up at Mojo’s a few times as it was close to where we were staying, had decently late hours, and had pretty good coffee. The odd thing about Mojo’s was the incredibly varied level of attitude we received from the staff. One day we had an awesome barista who talked to us a bit, recommended a place to eat, and talked about where they get their coffee from and the syrups they make. The following day I barely got an acknowledgement that I had place an order, they just muttered “sure” and walked off to make the drink. I’m not really a stickler for everyone needing to have an awesome attitude but at times it was downright rude.

Beyond the hit or miss attitudes the coffee itself was really good; definitely not overrated or burnt and they did a really good cortado. Even their pour-over had really nice notes that showed off the flavors in the coffee. Their cafe also had really nice seating, even if it did get a little crowded at times. Between the inside and outside seating there always seemed to be something open, and the layout of the shop created a cozy feeling to it.

While Mojo’s might not have been the “best” coffee shop in the area it’s a great place to get good...
