The Luling Mansion looks strangely out of place surrounded by smaller homes and a bit hidden. When Florence Luling had it built in 1865 it was not so. Designed by James Gallier, Jr. it sat on 30 acres facing Bayou St. John. Luling’s fortunes were reversed and he sold to the Louisiana Jockeys Club. They left in 1905, property was sold off and it was divided into apartments as it is today. Not as grand as it once was it appears considerable repairs are being made. This is not open to the public but is quite a lovely site.

Found the mansion from an article read previously. It's really sad how it's fallen in such bad shape. You can still picture it in its regal beauty when it had acres and acres of grounds and how beautiful it must've been back then. Now it's surrounded by a neighborhood with bad streets but still worth a stop to gaze and imagine what it must've been like back then.

Not open to the public and on a side street near Bayou St. John, this crumbling mansion that is now somehow subdivided into eight apartments sits tucked in on what was once a 30 acre property. A shining example of Italianate architecture, it is definitely worth the short walk from City Park.
