Very disappointed in our experience. We had come in a few times when we moved here and the falafal's were great. Portions were decent and staff pretty friendly. Last few times we called in an order to go. Was told it would be 15 minutes. Since it takes about that much time to get there we left right away. We get there and are told our order isnt ready (20 minutes after ordering and not one customer in the store) it ended up being another 18 minutes before we got our food, yes we timed it. We ordered 4 falafel sandwiches and it took almost 45 minutes??? Tonight we decided to order through uber eats. Give them another chance. Was HIGHLY suprised at how bad it was. Got 2 falafel sandwiches and a chicken platter. The falafel sandwiches were alot smaller and smashed in the foil. The chicken platter looked like a total mess. The chicken was 2 small thighs ( I assumed since they were a healthy restaurant it would be white meat, my fault for not checking ), the rice was a bland yellow mushy rice and about a half cup of "veggies/slaw". I really thought with all the seasoning plastered on top the chicken would give it alot of flavor, but it didnt. It was bland and small. I know they have gotten alot of positive reviews, but honestly...
Read moreGrowing up in a middle eastern family, I am a stickler for authenticity in restaurants that serve the cuisine. Though the menu itself is nice, the food when brought to our table was very lackluster. In the falafel platter, the falafel itself was under cooked on the inside. The flavor and seasoning was ok, but the trademark falafel "crunch" was not there and it being under cooked made it taste like falafel mix. The hummus had too much tahini in it/the overall balance between the tahini, lemon, salt, chickpeas, and garlic was off, making it taste very bland. The tahini sauce for the falafel was basically just watered down tahini(?) with no seasoning whatsoever, which was extremely dissapointing, and had the same balancing issues as the hummus had. I liked the pickles and the toum, which is the only authentic tasting item on the plate. The house bread was basically an unsweetened pancake. The tabbouleh was like a reverse tabbouleh, with 90% of it being the burghul and 10% of it being the parsley/veggies. The service was fine, the restaurant itself was nice, I liked the drawer full of utensils at our seats, but if you're looking for a gentrified version of middle eastern culture, look no further. Seek...
Read moreWhen the new orleans food truck scene started up there were a few standouts and fat falafel was top of the class. That the truck has given rise to this delightful gem in the city is a absolute blessing. Although I may miss hunting down where the truck is operating, after every meal I'm usually too satisfied to miss the food truck experience too much.
The specials are often delightful with the radishes and various soups being a pleasant surprise options when available. I tend towards the falafel platter nearly every time I attend, which consists of enough variety to make it a food experience instead of simply being a meal.
It's a tiny restaurant with big charm from the staff and the experience always feels like a comfort brought to life by the experience every time. The manner of getting your utensils is a great example of how this isn't your typical falafel or "Mediterranean" food experience. They've used their clever and talented minds in working through every element of the restaurant.
I will gladly go to anything opened by Gavin and Theresa as they have managed to do something special with every venture I've had the pleasure...
