BOOK-OFF is a pre-owned/new store focusing on a wide variety of collectibles, however this location was mainly focused on Anime/Japanese Otaku culture. The store itself is quite small, with it located on a 2nd floor, but they use the space quite well.
They have anime figures contained within a clear glass shelf on the exterior, which is labeled by series such as Love Live, Demon Slayer, and more. They also had a trade-in spot to trade in figures, as well as a wall for video games and a wall for Pokemon TCG Singles. They also have Tomica cars at this location, which is a rare find in the US and not found at the BOOK-OFF in Manhattan.
The space is pretty packed with customers, so it may be hard to maneuver around. The only real gripe I have with the store is with their pre-owned figure section stored inside bins. It's sorta hard to tell what figures are what in the bins because of how small the space is, you can't really take them out to look and have to rummage through the bin. There is also a risk of broken pieces and damage with how they are stored, so even though the prices are reasonable for pre-owned, I probably wouldn't buy...
Read moreUpdating my review and knocking it down to 3 stars because despite me calling 2 weeks in advance asking if they accept Japanese manga, and getting told they do - the moment I arrived at the store I was told they do not. I live over an hour away so I ended up trekking back to the Manhattan location instead where they DID accept it - ironically because in August 2022 they said they only accept English language media. So all in all, every BookOff in NYC is inconsistent with what they take and not take and you can assume you are basically donating your books at that point because I only got about 40 cents per volume. Well I suppose it's better than mercilessly throwing them away. If you have any Japanese media to sell, despite BookOff being a Japanese store chain, I highly recommend calling them in advance the day before or the day of before you bring all your books there. Unfortunately I will not be wasting my time going to...
Read moreSuper fun store! Great for browsing if you’re looking for a niche gift for a friend. They also have gacha (random blind box) machines and claw machines , its not cheap lol but they’re not super rigged since the prizes are small. They had small plushies and keychains when i went
The store itself has rows and rows of keychains and figures, and a small selection of wearables. I liked the wearables bc theres a lot of subtle merch (and some very unsubtle) options for everyday wear. You cant try on though so know your asian...
