This is my second time staying at the L Hotel. My first stay was just a few nights and my second stay is 10 nights. When reading some of the other reviews, I thought it would be good to level set. 1) This is New York, unless your paying top dollars, your not going to be staying in the largest rooms and with the most modern decor. 2) This hotel is normally quite a reasonable price, I feel you get what you pay for and it's perfectly reasonable. ||The pro's for me are: |1) On both occasions its been very clean and I always think this is something non negotiable for me. The rooms are clean, the shower is clean and the bedding is fresh. The cleaning team come to the hotel every morning and you can either request at check-in when you want the room cleaning or just mention it to the person working reception in the morning you want it cleaning. |2) Its located very close to a subway station (stop 36 ave). Easiest way in my opinion to travel around Brooklyn and into Manhattan is the subway anyway. Also a relatively easy journey to JFK. |3) Its located close to Industrial city which is cool for grabbing a Starbucks and there is a cool food market with different venues inside of it. Great place to sit and enjoy some food. |4) The staff are so so friendly, they always say good morning to you and will help you. |5) Rooms have a desk to work from, a microwave to heat up things in and fridge to store drinks and food in. Great for me who was working from the hotel. |6) Walk in shower - I love not having to climb into a tub to shower especially on city breaks, it just feels cleaner. |7) Coney Island 30 minutes ish on the subway. ||Maybe the negatives or cons, although I don't feel majorly strongly about them: |1) You are a little further south in Brooklyn than "the touristy" bits so you will need to use taxi's or the subway to get into Manhattan/Brooklyn if your being a tourist. For me i don't mind the subway but certainly if you heading up to Times Square you have to commute, but then again if yourve choose to stay in Brooklyn anyway then you know you have to commute. |2) The breakfast is basic. You get a choice of coffee, water or juice and of muffins, bagels or toast. For me i don't stay in hotels for breakfast, for me the main joy of being in a city is to go out for breakfast and especially in New York, I love grabbing a deli bagel for breakfast so this hotel breakfast is fine because i normally just grab a cup of coffee from the hotel. Unless breakfast is a major factor for you, i would just encourage you to go out for breakfast and grab something delicious as your in the big Apple. |3) The decor is dated. Again this didn't really phase me as I really just want a room to be clean. |4) There are no wardrobes in the rooms to hang up your clothes. There are however some pegs and hangers but this was a pain not having anywhere to store clothes. ||Overall I would say if your looking to lower your costs and really heading to New York to get out and about and don't mind using the subway, I think this is a really reasonable option and I would stay here again. Its not a fancy hotel, but it is 3 blocks from a subway station, its clean, the room is a reasonable size and it is a perfect place to sleep for people who intend to go out and about and explore the city or those who may need to work a bit...
Read moreI got a pretty good rate, for a week, via Air BNB for this hotel at NYC pricing. I am familiar with NY and Brooklyn and was ok staying here, as I know how to easily get around. It may seem out of the way or unhandy for someone unfamiliar with the area. It is safe, but you may not wish to walk alone past dark as a single lady. Check in was easy, and staff leaves you alone. They clean your room only if you request it. I appreciate it, as I don't have to worry about being vacant from the room at a certain time each day. The hotel is very clean. I am paranoid about 'the bugs that shall remain nameless'...and this was not an issue in the least. The room was clean but there were some greasy dirt spots on the wall next to the bed and the desk that I cleaned up. Room was decent size for NYC and didn't feel claustrophobic. Huge windows with a portion that you can open (screened) for real fresh air. Lovely wood flooring and modern walk in tiled shower with thick sliding glass doors give a boost to the ambience. Shower had nice hand held shower head/wand and water was as hot as I wanted, with good pressure and no smells. Bed was bigger than I needed, but would have been ample for two people. Sheets were basic white and clean. I would have preferred they smell fresher. But I am not doubting that they were washed. 4 pillows. One or two more hangers would be nice, but they probably would have given me some if I asked. Microwave, mini fridge and Keurig coffee maker in room was convenient. Air conditioning unit worked well but I felt it was a little on the loud side when it turned on and ran. Breakfast got the worst rating out of all the amenities. It is simply your very basic bread fare. It would be nice to have yogurt and/or fruit cups too. A second waffle maker would be nice. I watched several people make stacks of 10 waffles at a time while other people waited. I did notice some loud people on my floor almost every day. Sometimes music-playing party type people and sometimes screechy children. Sound barriers could be better, but I was never kept awake at night. Overall a good low frills but clean hotel that you can maybe get a good deal (for NYC) if you book it right. Some nice little Mexican restaurants and a laundromat on the block. Close to N and R trains. I would...
Read moreI would like to leave a list of pros and cons for this hotel.|Pros:|1. Very nice friendly people at desk|2. Clean|3. Free parking (a real plus)|4. Good location – near subway, and within walking distance (if you are a walker) of Sunset Park and Park Slope. The City Industry is only two blocks away. Here you will find many plaes to eat, food to buy and the Japanese Village. The neighborhood itself is a great mixture of all cultures which makes it very interesting.|5. The subway is a few blocks away and the 36th street station is an express stop so the time into the city is much faster than having to go on a local all the way.|Cons: |1. My room had only one accessible outlet that was used by the microwave, the coffee maker and the refrigerator (not at the same time since there are only two plugs in the outlet). If I wanted to plug my computer in, I needed to unplug one of the appliances. This outlet is located under the desk. The TV uses an outlet higher on the wall which is not accessible. There also is no accessible outlet on either side of the bed. The lamp outlets are in back of the headboard. I had to charge my phone in the bathroom. This problem can be easily solved without having to rewire the room by purchasing three lamps that have plugs and USB out outlets. If you visit a room like I had make sure you bring a strip that you can plug into the outlet and use several things at once.|2. The breakfast was not that great. They had very few options and did not have any orange juice. For a New York hotel the bagels were horrible.||Would I stay at this hotel again, yes. I do plan on staying there again, I just will know what to expect. The free parking is a definite plus, however, there are only about 15 spots for the whole hotel, so you may have to wait...
