I like the park itself, but you really get a mixed bag of dogs and dog owners. Tonight, a black small/medium sized dog named Ruby, attacked my puppy. As I attempted to pull the dog off of my puppy, it bit me, grabbing my winter coat and completely ripping the cuff off. As a dog owner, I would hope that - at a bare minimum - they would have stopped to make sure that neither my puppy nor myself had been seriously harmed and, if so, exchange information to take responsibility for any subsequent medical costs. But, rather than asking if my puppy or myself were injured, the owners swiftly attempted to make their exit. While this is the first violent attack I have witnessed at the park, it’s not the first time that I have felt a dog was too aggressive to be off leash roaming freely. My dog played at Washington Square park two times a day for years. It only took one day on the weird gravel here to completely tear up her paws. She kept stopping and we thought maybe the deeper gravel was making her tired. Nope it was because her paws were bleeding.
Apparently the board has known about this since October and yet there are no signs for newcomers to proceed with caution.
