I encountered cobble hill theatre when I bought my niece to see the Beyoncé’s Renaissance film. I enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and nostalgic feel. I enjoyed myself so much so that I decided to purchase myself two tickets for Christmas Day with the first show being, “The Color Purple”. I purchased a ticket for the first show which started at 12 PM. This is what I noticed: the crowd was predominantly Black. The person taking the tickets asked everyone coming in to open their bags. Now this would have been “standard” but as I got back on line to see the 2:40 Willie Wonka film, with a predominantly White crowd, the same person at the door, no longer decided to “check bags” (many of the White patrons entered with bags similar in size as the Black patrons that entered just a few hours prior). This has to be checked and bought to the public’s attention!
12/31/23: This is an update to the review that was left on 12/25/23. I did receive a response which basically said that the reason the patrons for the other viewings bags were not checked was because there was one person at the door and there was a much larger crowd. I’d like to be fair. Yes there was a slightly larger crowd however, that does not change “policy”. If the bags were checked for one particular group, they should be checked for all. The policy does not change because of a slightly larger crowd. Tot appears as if this is the case of an...
Read moreI went here with my friends to see the FNAF movie and we ended up leaving early. First off they are so understaffed here that trying to get food is just a waste, you’ll end up missing your movie because of how slow the line is. Second the theatre is small and felt cramped, there were assigned seats but no one was sitting in the right seats and it there were several kids sitting on the floor in the back because they couldn’t find their seats or something? Third, the theatre was dirty, I’m not sure if that’s because of the kids tossing popcorn around or if it was like that before as well. It also smelt so weird and bad in there. Fourth, there was a bunch of rowdy kids screaming, talking loudly, shining, flashlights in people’s eyes, making wildly inappropriate remarks and throwing things around, I know that I wasn’t the only one to complain about them as the girl next to me also told me she went to complain. They were just given a warning multiple times and that’s it. They were ruining the movie for everyone else but got to stay for some reason. I think they should’ve been kicked out but whatever. We couldn’t hear the movie so we just left, you should just save your money and go somewhere else. My friends and I will not be...
Read moreVery bad experience. My husband and I have been going to this theater for years. On November 17th, 2013 we came out of the theater that is on the first floor. The line to the women's room was extremely long. (They have tiny bathrooms that you can barely fit in) I recalled they had a restroom upstairs but as I approached the staircase one of the woman workers blocked my way and said there were no bathrooms upstairs. I thought this odd. However, the line was so long that I decided to race home instead and prayed that I would make it. My husband reminded me that there was indeed a bathroom upstairs on the other side. I made my way to the other staircase and was physically stopped by a woman named Janet. I said that I desperately needed to use the bathroom. She said the bathrooms were only for the upstairs theater. I said, "Please let me go. I really need to go". She physically blocked me then pushed me back threatening to call the police. I have never in my life been treated so horribly. We had just seen, 12 Years A Slave, and it reminded me of the humiliation of the characters in the story. Be prepared - don't drink the soda you may find yourself in a very compromising position and manhandled by a...
