VEJA NEW YORK - NOLITA — Local services in New York

I hate writing reviews, but after being severely disrespected it was the only resort. I have bought from this brand in Europe and had to size up because the ones i preferred were sold out in every size but that one. Unfortunately since the shoes were a bigger size and leather, they always bothered me a bit and got messed up rather quickly. I was happy to see that Veja has a store here and went to buy myself a new pair (finally in my size) since the “old” ones looked like a rat lived in it already. At the store a worker recommended the bigger size and I told them that I already own a pair and know i need to downsize. He recommended for my boyfriend to upsize too. I told him to bring both sizes for my boyfriend so that he could compare. Once we were sat, a worker brought out one pair for each of us instead of the two sizes I had asked for him. Then when I tried the shoes, saw how gorgeous they looked and how they finally fit my foot, the worker informed me that I should size up. I told him that I already own Vejas that have been ruined due to oversizing and that I will be buying the size I have tried on. He then RUDELY informed me that these shoes will never suit me because they are not in my “correct” size. As a salesperson, as long as I’ve told you that I will be purchasing them and after you’ve seen that my opinions not budging because I ALREADY OWN SHOES FROM THIS BRAND, you should just let me buy them and benefit the store. I was shocked by how rude he was after I kindly explained why I will not be upsizing (while having the shoe laced to my feet) so I immediately took them off and left the store. The 2 stars is for the shoes, they were very cute. Either a very bad quality of shoe or terrible workers, I don’t know. Wish I could refund the parking I wasted on getting...

I’ve heard of Veja from my friends who already have their own pairs and all they said were good things about it. I was in NYC visiting one of my close friends and I learned there was a Veja store in SoHo. We visited on a Wednesday morning, there was quite a queue outside just because we came around lunch time, so the 15-20 minute wait was understandable.

Once we got in the store, we got assigned with Jonathan. He was the most delightful, patient and informative person to work with. He gave us the history of the brand and the products they carry. He helped me and my three other friends find our perfect size in regular tennis shoes and running shoes because, like me, you might also have varying sizes and its perfect to come into the store and get fitted, since they also don’t carry half sizes. I was going in between sizes because i was an 11 in women’s or 9/9.5 in men’s and Jonathan probably brought out 16 boxes of shoes for me to just try out and make sure I was comfortable with the pair I was getting.

When visiting SoHo, hopefully you can also work with Jonathan in getting your own pair of Vejas. I came out of the store with two pairs and i have been raving about it since. I have also worn it multiple times, even going around the city and not even once did my feet hurt from all the walking I did, which was about 20k steps in one day. I didn’t even have to break them in which I usually do with my other shoes. That just means Jonathan did a FANTASTIC job in helping me finding the right size and I can’t recommend him enough. A big thank you to Carolynne and the Veja store staff for a fun and happy experience last weekend. I purchased a pair of Veja's from this store 2 years ago while visiting the City, have worn them regularly since then, and they have held up quite well, becoming even more comfortable over time. I'm still wearing them. Since I was visiting the City again last weekend, I decided to make a trip back to Veja for another pair to replace my old (beloved) pair. I was prepared to wait in line to get in, and did, though our wait was only about 20 minutes. The doorman was friendly and talkative, asking us about our trip, ect. After getting inside, we were quickly assigned to an associate, Carolynne, who directed us to a seat and came back quickly with the pairs I wanted to try on. Carolynne was friendly, knowledgeable about the products, answered all my questions, and had a helpful process for helping me choose which pair was best for me. I never felt rushed, dismissed, or ignored, and I appreciated the one on one customer service I received. While waiting in a line to get in isn't ideal, I believe it is worth the minor inconvenience to be able to have an associate immediately available to assist you, rather than waiting inside a crowded store to be helped eventually.
