a bizzare magic school bus ride into the small but persistent world of holography, complete with a charming mr. frizzle. if you have any interest in science and technology, of course check out this place. what might not be so obvious is that it's also of great historical significance as seemingly the only remaining shop of its kind, having persevered for well over 4 decades! to put it shortly: doc lazer has an original hologram he made of andy warhol reading a magazine. there are countless other treasures in this humble little shop, including an eye-popping signature wall that's been collecting more famous folks over the decades. dont miss holographic studios!! but be warned you will be very tempted to buy some holographic stickers or prints, since they are all so awesome and reasonably-priced.

My friends planned a surprise at the museum with Dr. Laser and it exceeded my wildest expectations. We booked the whole place for a private event and it could not have been more perfect. We had to split into two groups due to the number of people in the party but there was a cute courtyard space in the back where we could hang out. Dr. Laser was super informative but kept the conversation really light-hearted and fun. He clearly knows his stuff and is really passionate about lasers and holographs! I highly recommend this museum to anyone who wants a unique experience by Bellevue Hospital. Thanks Dr. Laser!!!

We had an amazing tour at Holographic Studios with Sy, who explained the science and art of holography so clearly and understandably. That’s no small feat, there’s a lot of technical depth to how holograms work! The holograms on display were stunning, and getting to see how they’re actually made was fascinating. I’d highly recommend this to anyone interested in art, science, or technology…it’s a rare place where all three come together so beautifully.

My visit to Holographic Studios was full of surprises and bent my mind into all kinds of new shapes. Dr. Laser is bursting with knowledge and loves to share it. He's very good at breaking complex topics down into relatable metaphors. Around every turn you'll find interesting stories, unexpected insights, jokes, and of course, really cool holograms.

I took the tour and also enjoyed his Illusions workshop, in which I learned some easy and low cost ways to create impressive looking special effects. We discussed techniques, materials, and much more. The doctor was very generous with his time and was able to tell me what I needed to hear at the right moment.

I did a lot of pretty cool things during my trip to the city and this was the most impactful. Do yourself a favor and visit...

Definitely spring for the tour. Jason knows his stuff upside and down and loves telling you all about it. You will get to see things that aren't in the main display, including the laser downstairs used to make the holograms. He's also had a lot of interesting encounters with some famous folk over the years (bonus: people who know something about recording music should ask him about what local joint he spent some time at...). Covid put a dent in their business and now is the time to get them caught up. When I was there, they happened to be having a fundraiser to keep the doors open. Don't let this venerable, one-of-a-kind enterprise slip away! Every nerd and their kid should make it a point to stop by if they are in NYC and do their part to keep it going. Thank...
