Key Food Supermarkets — Attraction in New York

I did not like this Key Food. They must have a BIG PROBLEM WITH THEFT. At the Deli counter the woman behind the counter needed to know exactly how many items I was going to order so she could mark it down with a magic marker after I ordered what I wanted I need an additional item that I spotted and she told me that she needed everything back because she needs to remarket obviously people are stealing things from the deli there could be no other reason secondly on the checkout section I used an EBT card for those people that don't know EBT is basically food stamps every store on the planet that I've ever been to when you pay by EBT they always give you the bags for free always without exception including places that are not supermarkets as long as you are purchasing food items for instance in my neighborhood there's a Duane Reade that I purchased dessert items they charge everybody a nickel per bag however when I use my EBT card they always give me a shopping bag for free when I told this to the cashier at Key Food he looked at me like I was crazy and insisted on charging me for the bags I have bags in my car but I could have brought in but I didn't bother because I know I always get them for free obviously this kid did not know how it works and I wasn't going to ask to speak to the manager over a nickel a bag last but not least I was charged $9 for something that came from the deli section normally I shop at The Food Emporium in Howard Beach every item I get as long as it's food-related they take my EBT card however again this man or boy at the register told me this particular item was going to be $9 I told him to keep it I didn't want it however I was with my sister and she said I'll pay for it if I was by myself I would have not gotten it at all there's another issue I wanted to take the shopping cart out to my car so I didn't have to carry the bags as I have a bad back something that I've been doing for years at this supermarket they call somebody over and they have to escort you to your car to make sure that you don't run off with their cart obviously like I said from the beginning this particular Key Food must have a big problem with theft if they go through all this nonsense never in my life have I experienced anything like this if I had my car I would have drove to Queens to The Food Emporium in Howard Beach by my home unfortunately I could not do that when I visited Key Food Wednesday August 31st I hope I never have to go back there again as I don't like the way the customers are treated like thieves I am a 60-year-old man the other day I was in the store by my house somebody left their receipt and their change on the counter I could have very easily taken it I gave it to the cashier not everyone is a thief something that this location needs to learn not happy. Just remembered. I needed to use the restroom however again because of their theft problem I was told that their restroom is out of order there's no way in a million years that the workers in this location are going to work a full shift without using the restroom the restroom is definitely working as the employees must use it during the course of a 9 hour day or even more when they work overtime again they don't want anybody going into the restroom and putting something in their pants another issue with that theft I don't know how many items I listed but that's a lot of complaining for one little shopping experience let me think there was a deli the checkout experience charging me for bags charging me for food that should have gone on the EBT following me to the car with the cart and telling me that the bathroom was out of order that's a total of six items believe me I was not there that long six items to complain about is ridiculous for one shopping experience I don't like to spend my money and be disappointed that's what this key food was a big disappointment. Same story. This location must have a BIG problem with theft. Manager walks around watching everybody uncomfortable feeling they don't want anybody going outside with the shopping...

Very surprised at the above 4 star reviews. The adequate/good: Fruit and vegetable section good like 3-4 star. Meats 3-4 star usually have something on sale in chicken and meat. Hard & soft Cheeses, milk, yogurts are ABSOLUTELY SEVERELY overpriced!! Whats worse is during pandemic there were notes on display regarding shortage of some products such as eggs and that is why prices were up. One would only have to walk over to Netcost to see their prices remained level and they had no such problem. There is literally a 50-100% mark up at KEYFOOD for dairy related product vs Netcost and others. Yogurts are literally 80-100% higher priced. Chobani flips for over $2.29 vs 1.19$ netcost. Regular chobani $1.99 vs .99c at netcost. Milk most organic typically $5.99 (they have one brand for $4.99 but low inventory) vs $3.99 Netcost (now 4.69$). Belgioioso Sliced Mozzarella $9.99 at Keyfood and $6.99 at Netcost. Other hard cheeses the same ludicrous mark ups. Paper towels (bought 2 bounty $7.29 however price said $5.89 on shelf got ripped there also..noticed when I got home) The list goes on and on for products (in fact I will make it my duty to provide a more comprehensive list later KEYFOOD: HOW CAN YOU DECLARE YOURSELF a family neighborhood market yet rip off your customers??. Its insulting to the basic intelligence of people. Maybe you are taking advantage of elderly (which there are alot in the area..especially Russian Granny s) who dont have the stamina to walk 2 blocks and compare prices!! This review is written by someone who has plenty of money BUT doesnt like getting taken advantage of. I truly hope when Netcost moves across the street you go out of business....which I think is likely. Afterall, how much higher can you make your prices above where they are now?? What comes around goes around...

This store is closest to my apartment and even though everything is overpriced I go shopping there very often, I love the people who are working the fruit and vegetables section, they are super nice and helpful, but cashiers are horrible, almost nobody is nice, especially Daphne (I know her name from my receipt). She is so nasty and rude all the time that i am not happy to get service from her, first she never says hello, or thank you or something nice, last time she seemed upset at something and when she was scanning my food she was throwing it to the side and I didn’t say anything because sometimes we all get moody and I thought it was just one time. However today the same things happened and when it was time to pay I inserted my card and it was processing much longer than usual, it seemed something was wrong and I asked her if everything was ok and this time she was reading a newspaper and she started complaining that I asked a question and I should just wait and do not ask anything, I told her that i do not mind waiting, but least she can do is to be nice. It seems like Managers don’t care about it, it is very sad that we are going there and we are ready to pay more for everything and they do not even want to give us normal service, shame on you people! 3 stars only because people who work the grocery section are amazing...
