Absolutely phenomenal dinner here. We just flew in to town from Florida and after a long day of travel this dinner was absolutely perfect.
Just to start because they're the unsung heroes, the staff was amazing. Not only our server but all the staff from the hostess to the bussers, even the owner (found out after he was the owner when I talked to him) served our drinks.
The found was absolutely outstanding. Specials were wonderful, a tortellini soup that was superb and my wife got the ravolis pictured here that she loved. I got the chicken fantasia, fresh mozzarella and asparagus cooked perfectly with extremely tender chicken and a wonderful sauce, noodles cooked perfectly al dente.
Also, the old fashioned was mixed extremely well, the second I ordered was a little stronger, not that I minded but the mix wasn't exactly consistent but both were delicious.
However, overall the highlight of the place was how well they accommodated our child. He's 4, almost 5 as he'll tell you. This place does not have any form of kids menu and really any options for children, yet they got him a special cup for his water with a lid and straw, served him apple juice in a rocks glass which he loved cause it was a glass "Just like dada" but they got him a half portion spaghetti, treated him like he was any other patron, looked at him like another customer not just the kid with the family. There was another family there that I could see was getting similar treatment as well. For a place that may not be aimed at families with kids specifically, they went above and beyond and my son absolutely loved that he was treated like an adult at the table. It might not be the same effect for everyone but the fact that they did and it made his night he was extactic. We're only here for four days and he already asked if we could come back tomorrow, he was actually upset when we told him they were closed on Christmas eve and day. Told him we might on Sunday if we have time after our show.
Lastly, something that really impressed me, we came in not knowing the quality of the place or what to expect, just pulled it off of Google. This restaurant has some class to it, the decor is great, it has a cozy feel, and we came in a little dressed down for being on flights all day, I've been to restaurants that I came in looking a little out of dress for it before and gotten the cold shoulder, slow service, rude behavior, etc. Even dressed down and somewhat disheveled from a day of travel, we were treated wonderfully, which truly says something about the staff and management. That they truly care about their customers.
I don't know when I'll be back in NYC but I can say next time I do I will go out of my way to come here. If you're looking for a place that's not in the touristy area of Times Square, only a short walk, easy to make even with a four year old, this is the...
Read moreI always fondly refer to my one and only time eating at Trattoria Trecolori as, singularly, one of the worst dining experiences that I've ever had. This review is two years overdue, but I knew I had to come here and leave a review because my horrible experience here still haunts me to this day (maybe I'm being a bit dramatic, but you get the point).
First thing, let me clarify that the ONLY reason we decided to eat here was because we were planning on going to a Broadway show right after (the restaurant was in close proximity to the theater). Never in my life would I ever willingly choose to eat here out of all the restaurants in the city - everything about this place screams "TOURIST TRAP." It's essentially an overpriced and faux-authentic Italian restaurant for lazy tourists, and the only thing it has going for itself is its prime location. Anyway, my boyfriend and I had made a reservation here that day and actually arrived early. It was very busy, so we were fine with having to wait until our reservation time to be seated. However, despite getting there early AND having a reservation, they STILL somehow managed to seat us LATE. Aggravating, to say the very least.
Moving onto the food... brace yourself for this one. The food quality was TERRIBLE at best. For one, I'm certain that the calamari was frozen and simply microwaved before being served to us - it was soggy, stale, and poorly seasoned. Bonus: it came with cheap-tasting, Chef Boyardee tomato sauce on the side! Moreover, the pasta was definitely store-bought - likely came from a box bought at Walmart or something, and it was also served with Kraft grated parmesan cheese (they can't even be arsed to use real cheese)... I 100% felt that I could make everything better at home myself, and probably for cheaper too.
Overall, Trattoria Trecolori is horrendous and a sorry excuse for a restaurant. They're like a glorified Olive Garden and embellish themselves with a fancy-sounding Italian name, but the truth is, they couldn't be further from being an authentic Italian place. I wouldn't even recommend for anyone to go here out of convenience, literally go...
Read moreWe ate here yesterday. The food was really great. We ordered chicken parmesan, fettuccini Alfredo, fettuccini Alfredo with shrimp, and Caesar salad. First, we had a reservation for 4:00 and we seated immediately. Bread was quickly brought to the table. The bread was warm and fresh; it was good but nothing exceptional. We ordered 2 chicken parmesans, and the size was great, and we loved how thin the cutlets were! I ordered mine well-done, and that worked out, because I think when you do that, they stick it under the broiler for a minute, which browns the cheese. The cheese they use is really delicious; it tastes like a very high quality cheese - either mozzarella or possible munster, sliced very thinly. We all loved the chicken parmesan and felt it was a great value for the money. The pasta served on the side was a small but ample portion, too. As far as the fettuccini Alfredos, they were absolutely heavenly; we decided the pasta itself tasted homemade, and the sauce was delicious! The shrimp tasted grilled and were cooked perfectly. The only thing we ordered which we did not enjoy were the Caesar salads. We had asked our waiter if they would be made with anchovies, and the waiter said, "a tiny bit." We couldn't even eat out salads, though, as the fishy flavor was extremely predominant. We told our waiter, who sent over the manager, who asked us if we wanted anything else instead, which we didn't, and when our bill came, both Caesars had been taken off the bill. I thought the total for our meal was very reasonable, and all three people in our party...
