I will start off by saying the bed was big and for our personal taste, comfortable. Another thing we appreciated, especially as we stayed during very high temperatures at the end of July, was the fact that they had lemon water at reception available for guests. That is the end of my positive comments about this hotel. I was left absolutely disgusted with the rest of our experience. Growing up in New York, but now living overseas, I was excited to show my hubby and 19 month old son the city. They had never been in to NY, so I wanted to give them a true NY experience. I did a lot of research and the Bentley hotel came up on a lot of websites about hotels with the best views in the city. The pictures were nice and the views of the bridge wonderful. Judging by photos, I booked the junior suite. Boy, was I fooled. There is one particular photo of the junior suite that comes up online that is very far from what you really get. While you do get the side view of the Queensborough Bridge, they did a nice photoshop job of the city view (buildings right in the front) because what we got was something else completely different - an old block building that actually made us keep the blinds closed so no one would see us, because we could sure see people! The room itself also left much to be desired. I expected it to be bigger, once again, judging by photos. It was also unclean, unkept, the carpet was stained, and it had a musty smell to it. The blinds needed fixing, and the bathtub was rusty (see photos). Our first night there, we barely slept. The AC was extremely loud, and so was the outside noise. I swear the hotel "shook" at times. Because of the location, I guess there's not much that could be done because of the FDR and Queensborough Bridge, but they could perhaps soundproof the rooms. We also had to co-sleep as they never brought up the crib requested and confirmed upon checkin. We left the hotel early to go sightseeing only to return late in the evening to find our room undone. Not sure if it was a mean joke by another guest or the cleaning staff simply didn“t feel like working that day, but a "do not disturb" sign was mysteriously placed on our door. We were informed by the front desk that no cleaning service was available at that time, and were given towels and sheets so we could make our own bed. Because that's really what you want to do at a hotel. As our experience could not get "better" (there really should be a sarcasm font), the next morning, I stepped out for a few minutes and left my husband and son in the room. I came back to find my husband horrified. He had went to the bathroom to brush his teeth, only to turn around and find our 19 month old son playing with lose open cables coming from underneath the AC. Luckily, he caught him on time and no harm was done. I went down to reception basically demanding some type of compensation for all our troubles, and was met with rudeness. I even told them I would call inspection, and was pretty much given a "I'd like to see you try" attitude. Coincidentally, I was not able to make any calls from my room, which leads me to believe the hotel blocked my room's line. A few minutes later, a hotel repairman of sorts showed up at our door. He took the box and cables that were hanging claiming it was hotel orders, when I especifically told him not to, saying I was contacting outside inspection. I have this all on video. On checkout, I was told by reception a hotel manager would contact me, it's been two weeks, and no word. Last, but not least, I was charged a $75 deposit upon arrival without prior notice (I saw it on my bank's app) and it was not returned until after 11 days after checkout.

I've passed by this hotel since I was a little girl and finally had a chance to see what it was like on the inside. The location is fantastic for families who might need to stay close by patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York Presbyterian, or the Hospital for Special Surgery, since all of these hospitals are within a five to ten minute walk. It's also right by the FDR and the 59th Street Bridge, which makes any car commutes relatively quick. The hotel provides complimentary bottles of Fiji water - two in the room upon check-in, and a stockpile in the gym fridge - which is surprisingly benevolent. The tiny fitness center on the second floor that includes most of the basics - free weights, two treadmills, an elliptical, and one or two other machines. After all that that, however, the list of pluses diminishes. So many of the pictures - either on the website or self-published photos on review sites - feature a beautiful view of the East River, but these are hard to come by. During my stay, a building was being constructed right between the hotel and the river that - upon completion - would effectively block any water views. My own hotel unit faced the city, which provided views that were neither here nor there. In the room and throughout the hotel, the building can't help but show its age. The dusty zebra print in my unit seemed to have been haphazardly laid down, as there were areas where it sat up jaggedly in corners and collected dust in spite of the cleaning staff's best efforts. There were also some stains and discolorations in the bathroom tub that seemed to have collected over some time. Again, this wasn't a fault on the maintenance crew - this is just a hotel that desperately needs an upgrade. Service was fine, if a little inefficient. The front desk only seems to have one computer, which means that service gets belabored, even when there are multiple people on staff. There were a few times when a line built up while no one was up front, presumably because a skeleton crew had to be pulled in multiple directions. Even hard workers can only do so much.

Where do I begin? We were charged $518 for this disgusting room and the management has treated us horribly. We stayed one night and then found mold on the blinds, right next to water damage, as well as, you guessed it, on the bed spread--no blacklight needed to see this stuff!! The bathroom is tiny and there is zero countertop space to put anything but maybe a toothbrush. The carpet was disgusting and dirty as well. We stayed the night on Tuesday, September 12, and the next day contacted management to tell them how disappointed we were with the room. She ensured me they would "look into it," as well as reimburse us and/or take money off for the night we did stay (tuesday night). Well, of course I check on my statement and I was charged a full night ($518). When I called on Sunday to discuss this with a manager, the receptionist said a manager would definitely call by the end of the day. Of course, no one called. Monday? No one called. Now it's Tuesday and they said "there was no mold only a water mark" and that a manager will be in touch by the end of the day. There are so many amazing places to stay in NYC, especially in the UES. Please, please do not stay at this disgusting Motel. I cannot believe their lack of customer service and lack of cleanliness. People often ask me where to stay in the city, and I will now always tell them one thing: anywhere but the Bentley Hotel. You should change your name to the Kia hotel.

NO ONE SHOULD STAY AT THIS HORRID EXCUSE FOR A MOTEL. WHOOPS HOTEL...

My Girlfriend took me here for my Christmas present for the weekend as a one night stay. We live on Long Island and often visit Manhattan but have never stayed in a hotel. This one came highly recommended by a friend of hers. We arrive at the hotel and it seems small (NYC not gonna really find much unless you stay at a chain.), there was a very small bar with room for 4 people at the bar and 6 people at the tiny tables. We didn't have a problem with any of this. Not until we got to the concierge desk... My GF booked us a suite with a kings size bed and paid Upwards of $700 for it ahead of time. We were told that they didn't have any suites do to a party that was going on that night and offered to refund her money for what I guess they considered a "deluxe room" Instead we were given a small room with a queen sized bed.

The walls were very thin... And by 'very thin' I mean you could hear everyone and everything in the hotel. I understand it is NYC and you'll hear traffic and nonsense like that. But I could hear the old couple next door pretty much whispering... And they were doing it purposely 'cause they noticed you could hear everything (the couple confessed the next day). The guests in the other room came and knocked on the door in the middle of night cause we fell asleep with the TV on and they kindly asked us to shut it due to the fact they had an infant next door (which we did). The A/C in the room was stuck on while it was 35 degrees out at night and after several complaints (where an engineer came up to unsuccessfully 'fix' it) we wore our coats to sleep.

She was extremely upset at one point and apologized to me for the uncomfortable stay. I didn't complain once to her. But it was very upsetting that she went through so much for us to have a nice weekend and apologized for it. There were some Pros though most of the staff was nice and informative, the view from the room was of Roosevelt Island which gave a nice sunrise in the morning. But aside form that the place was a nightmare.

The shower was horrid water was all over the floor. They had a European style to it which was half glass and half open... But it was dangerous in there my GF slipped and lucky caught her balance on me as I was walking by the open door. We did not have enough towels to soak up the water. At that point we were done packing to take our train to LI and were just too upset to get into it with the hotel staff. I have stayed at Motels in Boston that were 1/8 the price and gave you whatever you wanted. I DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONE SHOULD STAY HERE. The only reason this does not have one star is due to the bellhops and a few of the concierges. Some of them rolled their eyes at us... She spent $400+ on the room in the long run but it took 2 1/2 weeks for her to get the rest of her cash put back on her card from the original payment.

NO ONE SHOULD STAY AT THIS HOTEL FOR THE MONEY $120 IS WHAT THAT...

I enjoy writing reviews and think its the right thing to share my experience with other consumers. Prior to visiting the hotel, I was warned that the Bentley hotel did not have the best reviews I, however, made the decision not to listen. My friend was having a milestone birthday and she had been planning this birthday weekend for months and picked the Bentley hotel as the place to get together and celebrate. We both decided on one bedroom suites at the hotel. Monumental mistake. This was the most expensive suite at the hotel and the most disappointing. When you first walk into the room first appearance clean and just average. Combination living/dining room with the only closet in the suite located in the living room (not the best set up). The suite has no microwave or coffee machine even though it's a 1 bedroom suite. The heating/cool air system was a nightmare to control. The cable runs like it is not attached to a cable antenna. The channels were grainy and both the living room and bedroom televisions in suite had the same issues as did both suites. The bathroom had no wash cloths and if you can sit around for hot water to take a shower best of luck. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper in a 1 bedroom suite bathroom. The day of checkout, Housekeeping decided it was appropriate to come banging on both suites before 9:15am even though we were scheduled to check out at 1pm. The housekeeper proceeded to stake out the suites until we left (extremely inappropriate and very unprofessional). Sunday morning my friend called me over to her suite and what I saw was disgraceful and disgusting. When I walked into her bedroom and she pulled down her comforter, what I saw was jaw dropping. The fitted sheet was soiled and I mean SOILED (I will not post pictures because it is nauseating at best) it took most of the afternoon to get a Supervisor up to the suite and Bentley's resolution, to send up a bottle of wine with 3 wine glasses. During checkout, my friend had to insist before a partial resolution came about (they gave her a partial refund when she should have gotten full refund. Of you had seen that sheet you also would be in agreement). In general, Bentley's internal processes and Managerial style was sloppy, not to mention their follow through seriously lacking. As a Manager, I understand customer service and customer satisfaction and the Bentley hotel certainly fell short on all fronts. A guest should walk away feeling that their stay was treated with the white glove treatment, however, this is not the case with this hotel. Please take my advise and read reviews. When you come across this hotel in your picks press next and then SWIPE...
