I don't normally give negative reviews, but this one is warranted. I was craving sushi like crazy (when is that ever not the case though?) so I dragged my husband along to this place after purchasing a Groupon for myself. We figured I would use the Groupon and my husband would purchase his own entree because he isn't a huge sushi fan. I called the place beforehand to make a reservation for two and asked if they are accepting Groupon (it was the weekend, so I wasn't sure) and they said no reservation is necessary and that they would accept my Groupon.
Anyway, so we arrived there and I was pretty excited - walked in, and the place reeked of fish but I ignored that because I just wanted sushi in my stomach as soon as possible. The waitress came over and saw I had Groupon open on my phone and she instantly made a face. She said, "you can't use just one Groupon if there are two people." I said my husband would be ordering his own entree. She responded saying, "that's not allowed. I know the Groupon doesn't state this, but if he wants to eat at the same table as you then he will have to purchase a Groupon as well." After letting her know this "rule" was not included in the fine print, she simply shrugged and walked away. My husband then purchased his own Groupon on the spot. She came back and I let her know we are good now and that each of us has a Groupon now. She replied, "you can't purchase a Groupon in the restaurant. We won't be paid for 24 hours so you can't use it. You can get the $44 all-you-can eat option" At this point, I was absolutely annoyed and said, "are you serious? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard. Everyone buys Groupons on a whim. I just wasted money on two Groupons I can't use?" She let me know that it isn't her problem, so I asked her to get her manager. The manager came over and repeated exactly what the waitress had said. At that point, my husband told me that it's time we just left, so we did.
If a place is so against the use of Groupons, then they shouldn't allow it as an option to begin with. Additionally, the treatment they give their Groupon customers is absolutely horrendous. Maybe if the treatment was a little better, my husband and I would have put the Groupons aside and purchased entrees, however, the service was so terrible that it...
Read moreWe ordered the love boat for our family of four, along with one order of seafood yaki soba, and a few pieces of salmon sashimi. The menu said that the love boat came with soup and salad, but we did not get any with our order. Our children expect some miso soup with their sushi, so my wife called to ask what they could do. The lady said it was free to justify saying that the order was fully delivered and that she would not give us anything. Then they said they would credit us with free soup and salad on our next order, but that wasn't going to placate our children. Then they said we could come by to pick it up, but we had ordered delivery for a reason. Then they finally agreed to have a delivery person bring it by, but insisted that it only includes one soup and salad. This is the love boat, the largest and most expensive of their sushi entrees ($59 and more than the sushi for 3). I can only imagine a small group of people ordering this at the restaurant and then having soup and salad only placed in front of one person.
Finally a delivery person brought us a single soup in a cup, which was significantly smaller than the one that came with our soba earlier. The salad was pure lettuce, not even a token cucumber, tomato, or piece of shredded carrot. When I called back to complain, they hung up on me. I was very careful not to yell or swear, so this was incredibly rude. We had a good laugh about it later, because this was just ridiculously bad customer service. Even if the love boat really was supposed to come with only one soup and salad, they forgot that, and could have just made it up to us by giving us more. Instead they spitefully gave us less.
To be fair, we had a positive experience when we went there for 'all you can eat' sushi on their opening weekend. We accidentally over ordered (kids were being fussy and did not eat their usual) and they let us take home the extra food that we could not finish. That was much appreciated, but this was stupid. We're not going to bother ordering...
Read moreI'm updating my review because I've been using their delivery service these days. Their delivery guy is simply too rude and he complains about the tip that he is given.
When ordering online, there are three choices for leaving a tip: 10%, 15% or 20%. The minimum you can leave is a 10% tip or a custom tip. I just placed an order for two lunch specials, which are $8 each, along with some other things for a total of around $25. The delivery guy came furious, telling me I gave him a $1.50 tip and that I should have given him $5.
With an attitude like that, and keeping in mind that I can't give a tip that is not in proportion to the amount of the purchase I made. If my purchase was $50-$60 I can totally give a $5 tip but if my purchase is $25 excluding tax, that is simply not fair.
Besides, Tips are given for good service and coming to the doorstep of the customer to tell them off for giving you a tip, is simply the rudest thing and Definitely destroys the work you did to earn it. The guidelines that we follow to give tips are not made by the delivery guy. I certainly won't be using their delivery service as much as I did after this happened.
However, this is still one of my favorite places and their food is very good, the prices are good. I do take a star off because a good delivery service is important especially for those times when we can't take the time to go out for a nice dinner outside. There is good customer service at the restaurant but once you decide to go for delivery, there is not even a tiny particle of it. Rudest delivery person...
