One of the worst experiences coming to a so called Peruvian restaurant. When coming in the hostess and waitress who took us in had an attitude, no smile or charisma even when greeting a fairly big party at their door. One expects a place to greet you properly and give you the idea that they want you there but that's not the energy we received from this place. Even with our party of 6 they sat us at a small table and we had to request a bigger table because we had no space to move our arms (that was red flag #1). Once sat down they sent us another waiter and he was even worst, no politeness, attitude and just no energy when taking care of us (this was red flag #2). At this point we decided to let it slide assuming the food would be great, but once I noticed they had seafood mixed in the food I let the waiter know I am allergic and if there is any possible way for them to have it cooked in a separate oil. Unfortunately the waiter refused and simply told us that's how they cook it and there's nothing they can do (this was the 3rd and final red flag). I told him this is a lawsuit waiting to happen since they didn't mention any of this to us and neither did the menus mention they cross contaminate the food by cooking everything in the same oil. At that point no one wanted to eat there and we got up and left. On our way out the hostess tried to hear us out but it seemed like she wasn't trying to deal with us and said to wait for the manager but we needed her to hear us out too because she is in charge of the house, to no avail she brushed us off to the manager. Once explain to the manager he gave us a run around but I don't think he understood the danger he is brewing in his kitchen. I explained to him that his place is waiting for a lawsuit and that they should list if someone is pescatarian or can't eat seafood that they cook everything in the same oil. I told him any other place they would shut them down especially the department of sanitation because of these practices are simply unacceptable. If you plan on coming here, i do not recommend anyone to visit and eat here, aside from the atmosphere the treatment and energy of the place is abysmal. My advise to them is they need to do better before someone gets actually sick and then hits them with a lawsuit for them...

Read moreThis was my first time here and sure will be the last! With Pio Pio being a big chain restaurant, there are other restaurants to go to with a better experience. The food wasn’t bad but I take off stars for the appalling service I experienced. The bald headed waiter that serviced our table was very arrogant and someone from our party asked to return their dish because they added way too many spices and politely asked to take it back. The same waiter was rude about it and mumbled something derogatory under his breath when he took the plate back. Then the man who said he was the manager came out and insisted on her to order something else even when she politely declined. They don’t take no for an answer! And be careful with asking for separate checks, they add whatever tip percentage they want even if it’s a small party less than 3! The whole principle is that considering the rude and arrogant service from our waiter, he didn’t deserve over 20%! We tried to fight this with the manager but he was being stingy and kept giving us bogus reasoning on why we should still pay the tip (blah blah). Not even an ounce of being apologetic and obviously didn’t care if the lost a returning customer. It’s a shame they are in NYC but if you are a tourist and want to try Peruvian food there are many other places to go! Do Not patronize this particular restaurant! Arrogance and rude staff at its best!! Not a good look for a restaurant located...
