Living at MiMA is a mixed bag but I would not recommend. I lived there for almost two years. The doorpeople, concierge and maintenance crew are terrific, generous, and sweet. They make this place feel like home and keep the building secure (it’s on a busy corner). The leasing office is less than helpful, often rude, and difficult to communicate with. I was also overcharged and charged late fees when the rent was not late (it’s all set up with autopay through Bilt), and took some effort to rectify. The management is honestly not super responsive to issues, plan to email them multiple times to get a response. I dealt with broken dryer or dishwasher for many months despite them sending a technician to fix repeatedly. The dryer would literally say it was going to take 9 hours to dry a load, and they would tell me the machine was in working order. The amenities fee ($200ish a person) for gym, lounge, etc is pretty overpriced for what it is, especially given locked up everything is. For example, if you want to use the basketball court or pool, you need to call and book in advance; if you want the children’s playroom, you have to go ask concierge to unlock the door so you can get in. I’ve also had tech issues with the app which “tech support” is quick to help reset but it only works for the next day or so so pretty annoying to have to keep fixing that. There used to be a dog wash station (which leasing office said was complementary to use when we moved in…turned out it was another annual fee), but that is gone now. The floor plans are fine and apartment finishes are standard - a bit overpriced in comparison to other buildings in the area. I’ve lived in 2 other Related buildings in Manhattan — this one is probably the least worth the up-charge - small apartments, boring amenities, high price, service and management depends on the person. Definitely not the Related standard. The best parts of living here are still the front desk and doorpeople (Jamal, Wilmer, Brian in particular). Everything else is about average or could be improved. There’s better deals in the...
Read moreAzeem the doorman is not friendly or nice , I came to Visit a friend and he gave me an attitude from the moment I walked in. I forgot the apartment number so I gave my friends name. I told him I was calling to get the apartment number . He asked me to put my phone on speaker so he could speak with my friend instead of just waiting until I got the apartment number. I told him the apartment number and he rolled his eyes. He then had me waiting in the elevator for a five minutes without him pressing the button after he ensured I was all set to head up. I had to get back out of the elevator to the front desk. I asked why he didn’t press the button ? His response was “don’t worry I got you “ He’s telling me not to worry after I had already waited in the elevator for five minutes. He was definitely playing a game and not taking his job seriously in that moment. Azeem is not a professional. There was no reason to have me waiting in the elevator for five minutes , there also wasn’t any guest at the front desk when I came out of the elevator. So he wasn’t busy at all ! There was no excuse for ...
Read more1 star is a gross understatement of how awful this building is. I was previously a guest of a tenant at MiMA and have never experienced such incompetent building management. They recently made an empty-headed policy change where they now apparently receive, sign, and stash (or steal) packages if the name is any different from the name on the lease. What's the purpose of having a guest option on your apartment if you can't do something as simple as receive a package?
I currently have 4 packages worth hundreds of dollars that still haven't been returned to sender, 3-4 weeks later. After getting photo and signature proof of each delivery, I went to the doormen many times to inquire about the packages and they lied to my face about never receiving them. I've talked to UPS and FedEx often about any possible updates, and they've seen no movement since the day they were signed and delivered.
There are many amazing apartment buildings in midtown, but because of the unprofessional and substandard nature of its management, MiMA unfortunately is not...
