DONE SHOPPING HERE! I literally just left about 10 mins ago. Someone needs to deal with the older lady who was working self-checkout this morning around 9:10am (Wed, Oct. 9th). I went to make a purchase and realized I had to buy 2 of the items in order to get the discount (most times you don't, you can just purchase one). So I go back to get another one. When I return the 2 items I had already scanned we gone. So I asked her did she see the 2 items that were here. She looked at me and ignored me at first. So I asked her again. Did she see any items that were here because I wanted to purchase them. She says, "Oh, those were yours? They were left so I put them in the cart over there." and just points in the direction. I can't see them didn't even know where she was pointing to. So I said, "Oh no, I had to grab another item, but I still want them. Can I have them please?" She looks at me and points in the direction again as if to say, "get them yourself". Meanwhile I still can't see where they are and come to find out they're were like 5 feet away from her (but about 15 feet from me). Plus, she wasn't doing anything, but standing there. Wasn't helping anyone or anything! So it wasn't like I was pulling her from assisting anyone else or even completing any other task. She then begins to say "they're right over there". So I asked again "Can you or someone get them for me (as I'm standing in front of the machine where I left them while ringing). She ignores me and begins to walk around. So realizing that she has an attitude and doesn't want to provide any customer service. So I immediately ask for a manager. I had to ask 2x for a manager before she finally tells me, "I don't have an intercom or anyway of calling one." Having been in customer service myself for about 3 decades I realize this is completely unacceptable and know that the company isn't standing behind any of her actions. So I simple tell her "Dont worry, I'll leave a review". All of sudden she begins to pay much more attention and have much more to say. At this point I'm thinking about just walking out because I'm not walking back to 2 separate aisles to get the 2 items all over again when she could've just handed them to me being that she knew where they were, could see them, and were about 5 feet from her (behind the little wall). So right before I was about to just say "forget it" and leave she super slow walks the items to me and ask "Do you still want to purchase these?" As if that wasn't what I was trying to do then entire time. They then made an announcement over the speaker that the credit/debit card system was offline/down (which they also made before I got to the register so I was aware). She heard it again and then tries to say that's another reason why she assumed I left them and didn't want it when I went to get the 3rd item, because I didn't tell her anything when I left. Yet that was never the issue! So I explained to her that I understood that part, but what I didn't understand was when I made it clear that I did want the items upon returning that she couldn't just hand them to me. Ultimately, I shouldn't have fight with an employee of a company in order to support said company (by making a purchases). I'm pretty sure the company wants me to buy items. She made it too difficult for my liking. I shouldn't have to fight for the basics of customer service. I've been a customer here since 2014 (when it was PathMark), and never had to deal with something of the sort. Her attitude was completely unwarranted. I didn't disrespect her for her to disrespect me the way she did. Whole Foods is literally 2 blocks away from you guys (and I live in between both stores), and I'll be shopping there from now on. You guys can thank her for that. I'd suggest you deal with her before she cost your company any more long term money. As I complete this review I'm still contemplating returning the items just because of what she made me deal with 9am in the morning after getting off an overnight shift. Who...
Read moreOk selection for the size of the store. Unfortunately, the store keeps shortening t hours (midnight, then 10pm, and now 9pm on Sundays.) The deli and specialty counters close much earlier than that, making them useless.
Maybe the store doesn't know, but because of the central location near Atlantic Station and Barclay Center, people come from farther away to go to the store, and travel to the store with the current MTA lack of drivers for subways and buses means 45 minutes or more each way to get to the store. When you close at 9, that means we have to leave by 8 to get to you, and all of the local grocery stores farther out in smaller areas are still open. Pair that with the round trip cost of $5.50 for public transport and your store isn't that appealing.
Costco is open until 8:30pm most of the week. Wegmans is open until 11pm, and there are 24 hour stores coming back into their own as the pandemic becomes less dangerous to go out in, including ShopRite, Goldbergs Fresh Market, and Foodtown. The large Target across the street from Stop & Shop is contractually obligated to carry less fresh food because of their proximity to your store, but go one stop up on the subway lines, and the Target at Albee Square has more groceries, Stop & Shop has less weekly hours open than both of those Targets, which are open until 10 daily.
Even the Whole Foods at 292 Ashland Place by the Apple Store (1 block from your Stop and Shop location) is open until 10pm on Sunday night!
The more you reduce accessibility to your store through truncated hours, the less regular customers you will have at all hours, because instead of your store winding down at 11pm, it is now winding down at 8pm, and there are too many options for groceries around your area with better food (Whole Foods and Wegmans,) better prices (Target,) and better hours (Wegmans, Target, and Whole Foods.) Pretty soon, your hours will be reduced to the point of Costco beating you out for regular groceries. For the people who travel to you on the subways and buses, your shorter hours means you aren't an option for us to shop at your store anymore.
Lastly, many of the previous reviews with complaints, including shopping carts not working, issues about the store's cleanliness, and other issues specific to this location got a relatively fast response from Stop & Shop. Unfortunately, as I have been in the store since those reviews were acknowledged, none of those issues brought up have been dealt with. Seems like a lot of lip service without results...
Read moreI had previously left a 4 star review for this stop n shop but after my experience today, decreasing it to a 1 star because of the awful customer service. I came here today looking for a goya product which i had such difficulty finding, i could not find not ONE employee to ask for help in finding the product, after circling the store for over 20 minutes i finally found the item i was looking for in the freezer section. I proceeded to go to check out, and start checking out. i scanned one item, placed it in the bagging area, scanned the second item and placed it in the bagging area. the register would not let me scan any other items telling me i had placed something else in the bagging area which i had not. After trying to scan the next item a few times, the screen said something along the lines of "help is on the way" waited almost 5 minutes for an employee that was just chitting chatting with another employee to walk over with a nasty attitude and ask me what was going on and what i needed help. By this point i was frustrated and explained to her that i had scanned both items and placed them both in the bagging area but i still had 3 more items to scan, she proceeds to press the replay button to show "surveillance" of me scanning the item and placing it in the bagging area. She asks me why i hadnt scanned the fruit loops that were still in my hand and i tell her i couldnt since the register was not letting me scan anything else, she proceeded to enter her employee code and scanned the fruit loops for me, and then proceeds to tell me "I dont know why youre so angry". Is that really how your employees are trained to speak to customers? I told her i was tired i had both of my children with me and was just trying to pay for my 5 items and leave to get home since it was already past 9pm. DISGUSTING customer service. Some of these employees need to be retrained or let go, because clearly they dont have people skills or any customer service skills!!! Wont be returning to this location of stop n shop again after my experience today. she literally made me feel like i was doing something wrong just for asking for help. god forbid someone has to do their...
