What a horrible place. Read the honest Yelp reviews of their high prices and the owner's, Marcy's, obnoxious behavior. Unfortunately I used them to simply pick up, send my blinds to Hunter Douglas (not bought there) for restringing for a torn cord, and return to me. I didn't trust them to install back because of their high prices. They couldn't wait to do it, made a lot of money for this simple job, This incompetent Karla was nice once I committed, then gave me conflicting prices, and WORSE, GAVE ME WRONG INSTRUCTIONS TO MEASURE FOR THE RESTRINGING. I THEN SPOKE WITH THIS OWNER MARCY WHO WAS EQUALLY OBNOXIOUS AND GAVE ME WRONG INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN. THIS IS ALL DOCUMENTED IN WRITING. Great Hunter followed their instructions and my blinds came back and I am unable to reach the left cord without using a step stool. I WILL TAKE THEM TO COURT IF I FALL. Unfortunately I had to give one star to post, they deserve none. Beware, I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy; they're disgusting and take no responsibility for their errors.
Their response to me is a bold lie. They say "the information you provided was incorrect, even after we questioned it with you." I repeatedly sent them PROOF IN EMAILS. AND I have proof of phone calls, as I didn't trust them after getting a total run-around. I have asked them for their proof to be sent to me immediately. As usual they have not responded. Now they say they will be "agreeable to send back at no charge." I can never deal with them even if they paid me. They are not reputable, not honest and charge higher prices than any other blind...
Read moreWalking into Crosstown Custom Shade and Glass is like traveling back in time to an era when merchants took an interest in their customers, gave personal attention to the smallest details and spent whatever time was necessary to get the job done right. I fully enjoyed working with Marcy and Jeff Karpel who cared about my job as much as I did and who clearly take pride in their work. I entered the shop looking to replace vertical blinds in my den. What I thought would be a straightforward request turned into an education on solar shades, degrees of visibility, and levels of sun protection. Marcy not only explained all the choices available to me but also helped me determine the right color to complement my walls as well as the shape and design of the valance. In other words, each small decision was given her full attention. I was so satisfied with the result that I then asked Marcy to help me design window dressings for two large picture windows in my dining room. Once again, Marcy worked with me on each small detail from design (roman shades with curtains on each side), to fabric choices and the shape and size of the rod and finials. Jeff, who handled the installation of each job, was meticulous and made sure that the carefully crafted designs would hang beautifully. I could not be more delighted with the result and cannot recommend Crosstown Shade too highly. In addition to doing beautiful work, Marcy and Jeff are fun...
Read moreCrosstown has now done 2 projects for me. Both totally met my expectations. The first project was replacing some ugly art work in a lovely old frame with a beveled mirror . The change in my living room was marked after hanging my “new” mirror.
The second project was definitely more complicated as it involved removing a shower stall around my old bathtub and installing a new one. This update was complicated by the fact that the tub in my prewar UWS apartment features a turn that required adding a small third pane to the glass stall.
The entire project took place in several stages. First came uninstallation of the old shower stall and measuring, so the correct extra pieces could be made to ordered. Next came reinstallation during which time it was noticed that several adjustments needed to be made. Finally, after a careful evaluation of the adjustments needed and discussions with the owners the job was completed.
I was treated respectfully throughout the entire process and the fact that the business is located in the neighborhood meant that Crosstown was familiar with my UWS building and that when I needed to discuss the project as it was progressing I could easily stop by the store to talk directly with Marcy Karpel, one of the owners who helped be with the best solutions throughout the...
