Craig Ranch Skatepark offers an expansive and well-designed space for skateboarding and other wheeled sports. However, my recent visit left me with mixed feelings due to several concerning issues that affected the overall enjoyment and safety of the experience.
Firstly, I must acknowledge that the skatepark itself is impressive in terms of size and layout. It provides ample space for skaters of all skill levels to explore and showcase their abilities. The variety of ramps, rails, and obstacles cater to different styles and techniques, making it an appealing destination for skateboard enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere and environment at the skatepark were disappointing. The term "ghetto" is subjective, but it is clear that the park lacked the level of maintenance and cleanliness that one would hope for. The presence of graffiti and street art, particularly if done without permission, can contribute to an unkempt appearance that detracts from the overall aesthetics and safety of the facility.
One of the most distressing aspects of my visit was the negative encounters with other park users. Instances of destructive behavior, such as the breaking of your child's scooter, are unacceptable and indicate a lack of respect among some individuals frequenting the skatepark. The emotional impact on your child is concerning, and it reflects the need for better monitoring and enforcement of park rules to ensure the safety and well-being of all visitors.
Additionally, the presence of individuals engaging in harmful activities such as smoking and drinking within the park is deeply concerning. Not only do these actions pose health risks to both the individuals involved and others present, but they also contribute to an unwelcoming and potentially unsafe environment for families and young visitors.
The presence of homeless individuals engaging in street art raises further questions about park management and security. While it is important to recognize the value of artistic expression, it is crucial to ensure that it is done in a respectful and legal manner. The coexistence of the homeless population and recreational park users requires careful attention to ensure the safety and comfort of all parties involved.
In conclusion, Craig Ranch Skatepark offers a large and well-designed space for skateboarding enthusiasts. However, the overall experience is marred by concerns about cleanliness, destructive behavior, smoking and drinking, and questionable activities by certain park visitors. It is crucial for park management to address these issues promptly and implement measures to create a safer, more welcoming, and family-friendly environment for...
Read moreI moved to Las Vegas to become the web developer for the Maloof Money Cup, the skateboarding competition. When they would have a contest, they typically would build their own parks. There was always talks about doing an event in Vegas, and the conversation always veered to "We should just do it at Craig Ranch Skate Park" although, it never happened and I never saw the park.
Through the years, I had to research all of the skate parks in Southern California and help manage the maintenance on the skateparks that the Money Cup built. So, although I'm not a skater, I've seen a lot of skate parks!
After a decade, I finally made my way over to Craig Ranch Skate Park, and Yes, it is everything people say it is. I was very impressed. I had seen aerial views it from meetings years ago, but you really have to get in there to see everything going on.
This is a tremendous transitional park as well as a street park. It's got everything... ramps, stairs, rails, and multiple creative bowls. There is a bathroom inside the fence to the skate park, so you don't have to run across the park.
And this park has the biggest asset that should be a requirement for a skate park in the Las Vegas desert.. SHADE!! Why is this the only skate park in town that has shade!?
Anyway, from a contest production standpoint, stadium seating and a concessions stand would be amazing. But without, this skate park is still phenomenal!...
Read moreI'll start by saying, no matter your age, this park is a delightful experience! I've never seen so many talented people in my life in one place. The only drawback is that there are no medical personnel available to help if someone gets injured. These kids and adults are out there performing amazing tricks and they all look dangerous. They flip, flop, and fly all over the place! It's an awesome sight to see to be sure. In my opinion, they should be required to wear safety gear. That's just the protective side of me. There can be anywhere from 3-10 people performing at a time and they manage not to crash into each other. That's amazing in itself. Originating from Detroit, I was on high alert for trouble from so many teens and pre-teens being enclosed together, competing to out-do each other but EVERYONE GOT ALONG FAMOUSLY! I was pleasantly surprised and grateful. A good time was had by all! Some of the skateboards were absolutely beautiful custom made. Some were old and mangled. Whatever the case, everyone had fun. For the most part, the girls just stood around watching and cheering on their favorite skateboarder. From what I could comprehend, a skateboarding legend was in the crowd signing autographs and taking selfies. I have no idea who he is. Sorry. I just uploaded some AMAZING videos of the talented youngsters today! These kids...
