I had an excuse in the form of a buy-one-get-one-free coupon to stop by and try this latest addition to the chicken fastfood scene here in Sin City which is conveniently located not too far away from where I live.
Pollo Campero is proof positive that good people and good food come from Central America, more specifically from Guatamala the original home of the flavorful and optimally spiced chicken that is cooked here.
I was able to try both the fried and grilled chicken and enjoyed them both very much. It's impossible for me to pick a favorite.
Pollo Campero has its own unique twist on the batter of its fried chicken: It's light and cooked to a perfect state of golden brown perfection.
The grilled chicken is covered with a lip-smacking combination of spices all of which enhance the overall peppery, citrus theme with the luscious taste of lime predominating.
Both varieties of chicken are moist and juicy and a pure joy to consume. The portion sizes of the clearly top-quality chicken used are by no means skimpy, irrespective of how many pieces you buy. And this is most noticeable in the delicious chicken breasts which are truly impressive in size.
I only tried two side dishes - the yucca fries and the Campero beans - and both were uniquely tasty as well as of generous size.
I especially enjoyed the beans with Pollo Campero's own blend of spices in the sauce. These are definitely not your standard baked beans! The yucca fries are a welcome, lighter and more airy variation of the ubiquitous french fries found elsewhere and are ideally consumed with some Campero sauce. No ketchup is needed here!
Service was very quick, pretty much the moment that I stepped through the door. There was a slight wait after ordering since a new batch of one of the items that I ordered was still being cooked.
All I can say is that Pollo Campero is definitely worth a visit. Everyone should come on by and check out the new kid on the block.I will definitely be returning even when a discount coupon is...
Read moreOk as far as the food goes its fairly good. The chicken we had was fried moist and tasty. Unfortunately the rest was not so well tasting, the slaw was cut in to chunks and mixed with a lower qualty mayonnaise and was given to us hot( was totally bland and not very appetizing), the rice was well tasted just like the rice we would get in tx. at the locale HEB store, from the Chinese restaurant inside. THATS where this review takes a turn from others. Food ok not great but ok, as for the staff including the assistant manager and all of the personal working ,they seam to have a problem with white people or maybe non-spanish speakers, only we do speak Spanish and we are collage educated people, so when we keep hearing the staff talking about my wife, by name it started looking and sounding like they thought we might be dumb, all be cause my wife asked about the 10%discount for showing our Curacao card. The assistant manager said she was not sure about it and got the manager who said thatit was only for the California stores, the paperwork from Curacao said at any pollo campero there was no restrictions or exclusions from the restaurant or curacao. We will not go back there again even if the chicken was really good. I cant stand racist No matter the color of their skin or where they come from. Hell my entire family is mixed blood you name it we probably have some in the family...
Read moreThe cashier that assisted my daughter and I was rude and not helpful at all. There were specials running on a screen behind the cashier. My daughter and I decided to we would have one that was listed. When I started to give her my sides and she tells me that it only comes with one side. So, I point out the special to her and she said " you can't get that" . I was like "Excuse me? What do you mean I can't get that?" She said "thats over". She didn't apologize for the"false" advertising or even suggest another special. We finished placing our order and went to g to our drinks and there was no ice and the soda was flat. Not just one but all of them. The best thing about our whole experience was the lady cleaning the tables off. She brought us our food and instead of just throwing it on the table she noticed one of us didnt have our tortillas. So, she went to get them as well as silverware since we forgot to grab it. Very, attentive and genuinely sweet. Moving on, the food was cold, portions were small and the flavor was bland. I spoke with the manager before leaving to give a compliment about the lady that brought our food and mention the advertising mishap and the manager was a waste of my time. We WONT be going back there or recommend this...
