Good facilities, terrible service, thieves in the locker rooms!!!
There are not that many gyms around Oakland that have this combination of facilities like a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, different group classes and a weight room. So my husband and I decided to join this gym and initially I was excited to join it but got disappointed very quickly.
The second week after I joined the gym, my wallet was stolen from the locked locker. Unfortunately, I had a lot of cash in the wallet. The thief spent money from my cards. It took me a few months to dispute the fraud transactions from one of my cards. And I could never get money back from another card. I also had to go to DMV to get a new driver’s license. The gym staff didn’t investigate the incident, but they covered 3 months of my dues. This was still less than the amount that was stolen my wallet. They made some adjustment in my account to suspend the charges for 3 months and that created some negative balance so every time I entered the gym they would stop me and ask questions as if I owe them something. It was annoying until they fixed it.
Later on I decided to buy a Pilates package through their app. It turns out that they charged me almost 4 times more the actual price. Thanks to the Pilates instructor who told me that it was an incorrect amount otherwise I wouldn’t know that they basically stole my money by charging me 4xPrice.
Starting from January, they started charging us more than usual because they raised the monthly dues even though I thought my husband and I got an annual contract. We were not told clearly when we signed the contract that only I would be under the contract, and my husband wouldn’t be.
A couple of days ago, there was a woman in the locker room who seemed to be homeless, who was hanging out in the locker room with a carryon and was trying to take a nap on the benches were people usually change. I noticed her sitting in the locker room when I just came and when I was leaving she was trying to take a nap. I notified the front desk about the woman who was taking a nap in locker room, but they just...
Read moreI had the worst experience at The Club at City Center, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts. Since they transitioned to an AI system, it has become nearly impossible to get any assistance. The lack of communication is frustrating; I repeatedly tried to reach out, but I was met with silence, their AI system really makes things difficult for people with disabilities.
The cancellation policy requires a 30-day notice, which is reasonable, but they make the process incredibly difficult. The management team is unprofessional, and I found Esmeralda, the supervisor, to be condescending in her responses. Patrick, claiming to be at the top of the hierarchy, was of no help either.
Due to work commitments, I continued paying for my membership without using the club. Alarmingly, I received text messages inviting me to visit, even though I hadn’t been there. This raised concerns that my membership was being misused by others. I reported this issue, but no action was taken.
Since May 20, I have tried to contact the club, only to be met with automated responses and no live support. Eventually, I received a message instructing me to email my cancellation request. Days later, they claimed they hadn’t received my email and sent me a form instead. Now, I’m stuck paying for June and July, despite my attempts to cancel.
While I understand the need for a cancellation notice, their tactics make it seem like they are purposely trying to pocket an extra month. It’s no surprise that this gym has seen a decline. I would not recommend The Club at City Center to anyone looking for a straightforward and...
Read moreI had the chance to check out The Club at City Center recently, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. The first thing that struck me was how meticulously clean and well-kept the place was. You could tell that the staff took pride in keeping everything in tip-top shape.
Moving on to the facilities themselves, they were just out of this world. There was such an incredible array of equipment available, from the latest and greatest machines to an abundance of free weights. And there was so much space to move around - I never once felt cramped or crowded. And don't even get me started on the ample room for stretching and floor exercises.
But the real kicker was the new golf simulator. As a self-professed golf aficionado, I was over the moon when I heard they had one. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. It was like being transported to a different world - the graphics were so lifelike, it was almost hard to believe I wasn't really out on the course.
All in all, I can't recommend The Club at City Center highly enough. The spotless facilities, unbelievable selection of equipment, and cutting-edge features like the golf simulator make it truly stand out. If you're in the market for a top-tier gym, this is the...
