Nathan's Hippy Dip Hot Spring — Attraction in Pagosa Springs

There is a small shallow primitive pool constructed from surrounding river rocks. Hot spring water pours into it from a pipe. The water doesn't feel terribly hot. It is more like a comfortably warm bathtub. The setting is somewhat serene as it sits next to a parkway along the riverbanks. However, there is a busy bridge nearby, so that makes it less than ideal. So great to be able to experience natural hot springs for free where they enter the river! Note that there are hot spring waters draining into the river at multiple points. Look for rock circles that have been built or pools naturally formed in the rocks to hold the hot water in. Some of the pools are really hot. Some have nice thermal gradients: hot at the surface but cooler as you dip down to the bottom. We found a great pool under the pedestrian bridge that crosses the river...

Fun, free and goes on for a while. The Hippy Dip in the San Juan River is just right for families of all sizes. My kids absolutely had the time of their lives with my daughter telling me she was having "the best day ever" just being able to play in warm water thats supposed to be like a normal river.
