Dillard's — Attraction in Palmdale

Went to the mall recently to exchange a birthday fragrance that wasn't to my liking. I never go to the mall here otherwise- I had a gift receipt, the bottle was unopened. Upon walking into Dillards, I noted that the perfume counter was...barren for lack of a better word. I didn't think this too strange, as I live here and know that many businesses have to take measures to retain their product (stealing/shoplifting). As I approached the counter,I wasn't greeted (which is perfectly fine by me), and I started walking around the counter to see what -was- available in the displays.

Eventually, one of the sales women got close enough to me to ask me if I needed help- quite callously, I might add. I replied that I was just looking, to which she breezily responded, "Ok, WELL HAvE a GrEaT DAYYY" as if she was dismissing me for saying I was good. I'm quite knowledgeable on perfumes, and have hundreds of dollars worth in my small, curated collection at home, so her comment rang strange. I continued trying to browse- she interrupted again to ask if I needed help a moment later. I replied that "I'd like to just browse, if that was ok?" To which is responded- "well....you caaaannnnn...." as if I was doing something wrong. Strange.

Kept browsing and came across the section for Chanel- at which point I picked it up to smell one I didn't own. The bottles that were out were filled with foul smelling liquid (fake) to again, I'm sure, discourage shoplifters. Unfortunately, that fake liquid also made the stopper sticky, so it flew out of the bottle and spilled. I quickly turned to see if I could find wipes/napkins in the beauty section to clean it up- there were none to be found. About this time, a second sales associate walked up- a rather large/tall/heavy woman. As I was looking for cleanup supplies, she quickly lumbered towards me, just about shouting- "MA'AM, THOSE ARE FA. THEY'RE FAKKKEEE. WHAT DO YOU NEED HELP WITH???" I ignored her due to the inappropriateness of her volume. She repeated it twice while following me.

At this point, I should've left, but I was mortified and just wanted to exchange the perfume I didn't need. As I was coming around the counter again to just panic buy something, I could hear her and the other sales associate laughing about the fact that I had " hahahaha, stupidly opened the fake Chanel" that was sitting on the counter for display- which in every other beauty place, means you can sample/touch. It was around this point that the manager showed up- her name begins with a V, I believe. She was able to help me and neutralize the situation enough that I completed an exchange. It was honestly an awful experience- and I'm not sure why. I was dressed modestly in a tee dress, ball cap, and canvas tote bag- maybe that's why? It shouldn't matter how a customer is dressed, and this is THE AV, anyway- so not super high class to begin with. Very strange experience- will drive to SCV in the future. Waited to review my recent experience to ensure it wasn't colored by emotion- I'm not sure if this is typical or was just an off day. Left a bad taste in my mouth, the one star is for the...

A few things- Jessica (best manager) is mentioned in a review recently by a student and the reason she couldn’t be hired is because the schedules are opening at 11 am until 6 pm, even part timers. no one can just work mornings. No they do not put school first and they will fire you and make you feel bad if you try. They’ve lost multiple employees because of this. And they try to make you a full timer because your quota is higher to reach and more impossible considering how slow it is most days. And they try to hire so many people that even when it is busy, they try to get you all to fight over the sales and there’s not enough customers for you all to hit your quota. You dodged a bullet. Second, racism by the men’s fragrance counter was mentioned earlier. Yes she does this to the black employees as well. Third, staffing issues were mentioned. They are so horribly run, they can’t even keep up with staff. In a perfect world there would be a fully staffed floor, but multiple employees quit monthly because their store manager, assistant store manager, and department managers are horrible and invasive and unprofessional (can you blame them, their peak is in a dillards.) Fourth, one review mentioned how hot it is. They don’t get ac or heater so they’re always freezing or melting. If you were miserable, imagine the employees. And fifth, if you happened to come across an employee who doesn’t greet you super kindly or at all, it is not for lack of wanting to as they make money off of selling things to you. It’s probably that they’ve been verbally abused by managers and treated with disrespect and can no longer maintain the façade. Customers take their anger out on you and the managers are jealous of you therefore pick on every move you make. Glad so many people enjoy their time there, but the majority of the employees are absolutely miserable and as you can see by the very WARM responses to the one star reviews, they care VERY VERY MUCH about your experience. They care even less about the employees who keep the store running and keep the regulars coming in. And if you’re looking for a job there, avoid cosmetics. Jackie is the worst...

I bought a very nice men's triple XL jacket for my son here last Christmas. It was on sale a very nice winter coat for a very reasonable price. One year later I returned to the store to buy my wife a pair of Uugs Koolaburra Womens Boots. The Google application stated this store carries this item, but does not. They said they could order these boots and normally carried them, the difference being totally different model numbers and totally different boots. The one I was looking for is a 12 -14" inch tall boot from the arch. The model the female salesperson tried to sell me was a 9 in tall boot.

Infuriated by the ignorance of the sales woman who waited on me. I specifically asked for the women's classic II genuine shearling lined tall boot by Uggs. Uggs bought out Kookaburra and made a cheaper version called the koolaburra. The saleswoman did not know the product she was selling. She insisted she had the real deal which has an artificial material "faux" meaning "fake", for an interior lining inside the boot, and is also made from cowhide in lieu of sheepskin. Another major difference in the boot I explained I was looking for, is made from 100% sheepskin and wool inside and out.

The most infuriating thing was the price difference. Dillard's has a 9in cowhide Uggs boot for $199. I ordered while sitting in there chairs the actual pair I was looking for which are knee high 14 inch from the arch tall, for the very same price, made out of 100% sheepskin and wool both exterior and interior, in lieu of cowhide and fake lining. Dillard's is selling half the boot for twice the price. Save yourself the headache Hassle and money and order your pair off of Amazon, for half the price.

Pathetic when a salesperson is not trained and does not know what product , brand and items they are selling, and/or not knowledgable the difference between items. Obviously sales people at this store are not trained if at all. If trained at least not properly. I wanted a pair of women's boots model number UUG-1016224. I was told repeatedly the model I was looking for is what they had in stock model number...
