Echoing others who stated that Oscar is someone who should be avoided. I had found a piece of art a while back when visiting on vacation. Months later, I took a 48 hour trip specifically to purchase this piece of art, I was met with a lecture about what I should and shouldn't like, and how to properly appreciate art. Great, I'm not one to argue or impose my views on others, but i nearly chose to not purchase it. I went to another gallery to purchase another piece and while there, I decided to return and get it over with. I ended up adding it to my collection anyways but honestly if any other avenue to buy this specific piece existed, I wouldn't have returned to purchase it from Oscar.
After paying, we set out to pick out a complimentary frame and fillet which would best match the piece of art. I selected a frame + fillet that I felt would augment the space the art was going in and went on my merry way; out of sight, out of mind until a month later.
Unfortunately, the fillet was discontinued; it happens, so I ask for a plethora of options to look through. I get a slow trickle of three options over the course of this evening, and it felt like pulling teeth to even get that. At this rate, I've seen very little, but it could go on for days, so I selected a new frame and fillet combination from the few options Oscar sent. I am told that unfortunately the frame is already cut so that combination is not an option anymore. At any other gallery, the gallery and/or framer would rectify this error and wouldn't expect the customer to use a frame that no longer has its matching fillet.
I could pull more teeth and maybe see a few more options in the coming days, but in the end, groveling for options one by one via text messaging is a horrible experience. Being pigeon holed into a frame because the gallery made the mistake of cutting the frame without having the complimentary elements is a horrible experience. Not knowing what array of options even exists, is a horrible experience. It is the complete and total lack of care that really disappointed me, and will ensure that I...
Read moreBeware of the salesperson Oscar M!
I purchased a beautiful life-size bronze statue from this location back in February. I paid a premium price and was promised white glove delivery with insurance. When the artwork finally arrived 7 months later, the over 200 lbs crate was dumped in my alley.
With many phone calls, I found out that Oscar only asked for the conversional delivery. The gallery's manager and Oscar were expecting me, and my family or neighbors to open the crate box and take the heavy bronze and stone stature out by ourselves! I was shocked by their suggestions.
Then Oscar asked me to pay additional $600 for a white glove service, just to open the box and take the stature out, carry it from the alley into the house!
Eventually the corporation intervened and offered help the next day. The crate needs powered tools to open. The statue was firmly fixed with wooden beams inside the box, which also require powered tools to release. The statue has a delicate stone slab base with a weight of about 100lbs. It needs special effort to lift out of the box. A dolly and a blanket are necessary to transfer the statue from the open box into the house. The crate package needs to be disposed. All these work, Oscar is asking the customer to take care of by ourselves?
With Oscar's experience, it is impossible that he doesn't know what it takes to deliver such piece of bronze statue. How can a premium art work paid by premium price, came down to impossible delivery? How dare that he argues that the white-glove service was not written down in contract? I was almost laughing when he was asking for another $600. It's pathetic.
Three-star is for the corporation's help. "Miscommunication" was the excuse Oscar given for his deliberated act. It can't compensate the much time lost in dealing with such a...
Read moreWonderful artworks, terrible shop assistant. I'm a foreign tourist and was just chilling around the hotel. When I stepped into the shop and looked the art, a middle-aged Caucasian male shop assistant spoke to me and basically said, "I can sell it to you if you can actually afford it," which I found very disrespectful.
I’m not sure why he spoke to me like that—I did nothing wrong but was just amazed by the beautiful artworks. I felt deeply offended by his attitude.
It's sad that, based on my experience, there was zero passion or respect i can feel from them for either art or the people who appreciate art. Clearly, they judge people based on appearance and are just trying to make money, which doesn’t align with the quality of the art they display.
It’s even more absurd that they don’t seem to make any effort to hide this...
