Love this place, tons of great Asian grocery items, housewares and superhuge selection of live seafood and meat/produce. The front door on the spring garden side is closed, you must go in the back to the parking lot to enter on the seafood side. The reusable bags are kinda awesome. Service is functional but expect a language barrier from some employees. Some aisles can be cluttered and some items may not have English labels. Prices are lower on some items than they would be elsewhere and they have extensive selection of noodles, tea and frozen staples. It's rough around the edges but if you need it they usually have it. They have American name brand stuff but it's expensive and some stuff I know dollar tree stocks for less than they sell.
Funny story- I was shopping in there a couple years ago and I happen to be in the same aisle with another POC and also non Asian (okay, white)person, all of a sudden they switched off the traditional Chinese music to hip hop! We all laughed and looked at each other... they watching yooou!!!
But no worries they love your money too much to do that hurry up and buy schtick with you. Also pls note the fruit/smoothie truck across the street on spring garden...dont...
Read moreClearly they’re a struggling small business grocer. You can see it in products exceeding their shelf life, meats and seafood are frozen/thawed. They can’t hire 25 all day staff to clean. With today’s small margins I imagine they’ve wanted to quit long ago. I truly hope they survive the gentrification because Sprouts ain’t it. They need to rethink their layout honestly, maybe even make the meat section smaller consider it’s likely they’re struggling with wastage. But despite this, they’re nice people and doing everything they can with what they have. Their variety and prices on fruits and produce beats IGA only a mile away. If you like Asian products and have time to scan expiration dates, etc. in your grocery shopping (I recommend stopping by). I stop by here for my chinese-japanese-thai dry goods/spices, snacks, soy milk, some fruits, produce, and frozen dumplings. FREE parking. Chinatown does get the better quality fruits and meats but you never have to fight traffic...
Read moreThis store is racist! For context I am a black man with dreads, I usually come in this store with my mom which an incident like this never happened before, but I decided to go by myself, with my electric scooter. As soon as I got in the store the lady in the front is going to tell me to leave my electric scooter at the front. I try not to think nothing of it and be polite, but it felt wrong. As I'm walking deeper into the store the lady is just intensly staring at me as if I'm going to steal something. Trust me it's not a normal stare. she gave me such a suspicious glare, as if I'm going to grab something and run . As I got my items and left I told her "You don't have to stare at me like that". She just ignored me. Mind you something like this never happened when I'm with my mom. I am upset and frustrated because this felt so...
