This used to be our preferred way into Philly. We would park at the Aquarium where parking is only $5 for members then take the ferry when it was $6 a person. The total was still less than the bridge ($5) and parking which could be as much as $25.
Unfortunately, the ferry price has been raised to $9 a person. This makes it closer to break even for three.
The only other issue I have is that this is meant to be a tourist thing. The ferry does not go straight across, it meanders down past the battleship on the way from Camden to Philly and ducks under the Ben Franklin Bridge when going from Philly to back to Camden.
With all that said, if you are visiting the aquarium with children, this can be a great way of popping over and taking a quick tour of Philadelphia without having to drive. Strollers are no problem and it drops you at Penn's Landing where there are always...
Read moreThe ferry itself is great. You won't wait very long, and it quickly gets you across the river to the aquarium or the stadium, and it's a fun ride.
That being said, I don't use it anymore simply due to the cost. As of 2024, it's $25 pp for a round trip ticket. You'll still need to park in Philly or Uber to the port. It's likely cheaper to cross the bridge and park in Camden, even if it's just one person. The extra cost goes exponentially up with more people in the group. Frankly, it's not all that convenient, and I've been parking in Camden for the past 20+ years now. I only took the ferry this time because my friend jumped the gun and bought ferry tickets because he heard, "it's the way to go." IMO, it's not UNLESS you plan to drink a lot at the concert, in which case it's easier to get an Uber on the Philly side of...
Read moreWent to see a concert at the pavillion and used the ferry to get across the river, there and back. What an awful experience. There were zero employees giving directions, managing the line, etc. so there was a lot of confusion and it took a incredibly unreasonable amount of time to get the ferry going after the concert. Instead of having the ferry ready as soon as the concert ended it took almost thirty minutes waiting in line for them to finally start loading the first ferry - not for the ferry to leave, for them to start letting the first people on. I cannot understand how it can take that long to be ready when they knew there would be a sold out concert for months in advance. Incredibly poor planning...
