We got off the bus in P-town on a very hot and very, very muggy afternoon and my English Teacher wife looked up just a couple of steps from MacMillan Pier. She said "let's check out the library." I was skeptical, but she sealed the deal with the aside: "It's got to be air conditioned." Met at the door by a friendly librarian who asked "are you here to see the ship?" I responded, truthfully, "No . . . we're here for the air conditioning." He chuckled and said, "head upstairs, you are going to be amazed."

We were. Wow. Who would have thought they'd stuffed a HUGE sailing vessel in the old church turned library. Yeah, the air conditioning was a great respite from the oppressive heat, but this is one cool library. Check it out, read the history, marvel at the ship-in-a-bottle type trick these folks have pulled with the ship and check out a book or two. Well worth the time...

What a charming library!

Whenever I visit a new place, I head to the library, and this is definitely one worth reviewing.

I was here on the off season, and as much as I wanted to spend time on the beach, watching the water, it was too cold most days to enjoy the outdoors for extended periods of time. But then I discovered the third floor of this library, which has two armchairs set up in front of a window with incredible bay views. I sat here for hours reading.

This library also gets points for what seems like a very extensive book collection, friendly librarians, intuitive setup and the ability to join the library even as a visitor. I wanted to borrow some books for my time here, and they made it easy and painless to do so.

I think I would come back to Ptown just for...

Spent a few days working remotely in the library. Clean, pleasant, and unique library with solid number of tables and nooks to set up and spend a day working. No individual small rooms I saw so if you’ll be on the phone or video calls all day might not be ideal/ will need to keep it low/quiet. Many great window views. It’s been nice to see others remote working here. Second floor gets a little loud with visitors checking out the huge boat built into the library, but who can blame them! It’s a sight to see. Bathrooms are clean. Would recommend bringing a simple 6-9 foot extension cord to charge phone/laptop as there are not always plugs immediately next to the seating areas in reach of standard chargers. Walking distance to many places to get...

The upcycling of an old church into the Provincetown Library is truly a sight to see. The addition of modern amenities, woven into the historic building, is very well done. The story of the building’s history is well told with wall plaques throughout. The one half scale replica of the Rose Dorothea, a Grand Banks fishing schooner, on the second floor spurs the imagination of young and old and really ties to the history of the town. The household appliances ‘lender’ area is such a great idea and yet another way libraries are places that help bind a community together.

It’s worth a visit just for the boat with full sails that stands on second floor! Awesome area for kid on hot days, with lots of pop-up books that are hard to find elsewhere, a play area with clothes for dress up, and a pretend wooden kitchen. Also on second floor, the art and craft area is equipped with a large kids table, kids chairs, and a sink to clean hands and tools. A small nursing area sits right next to it. Computers are available with educational games for kids of different ages. Restrooms are large enough to fit a stroller, and always clean.

The Provincetown Public Library is an aesthetic as well as educational attraction. The grounds are well kept and inviting and the welcoming area features hardwood stairs leading up to the Rose Dorothea schooner model on the second floor. There is a wide selection of books, audiobooks and other media throughout the library as well as public computers. A bicycle rack is available near the corner of Center Street and Commercial Street and the library is a short walk from the bus stop at MacMillan Pier.
